I have a 2019 with a SmartKey and the small tailgate emergency key. I have two fobs and two tailgate keys so no problems there.

On the keys I carry everyday I've switched over to an AJT fob case and I run a KeySmart key organizer. I don't want anything extra hanging off the key ring so I normally keep the tailgate key in the center console. Since adding a camper shell I find myself locking the tailgate and rear glass more and more so I'd like to have it in the KeySmart with my LEER key.

Does anyone know of a standard size replacement key that I can get cut that will fit in my KeySmart? Something the size of a normal car or house key.

I'm not worried about getting it cut, I've had a shop locally cut high security laser keys for me before including one for my Tacoma.

I'm also aware of the Meso and AJT fobs that allow me to carry the tailgate key in them, but I don't like them. I have one and the fob has detached a few times in my pocket so I want to avoid that problem all together.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I've ran across this part # but no clue if it'll work: 69515-0K130

If it would fit and unlock the tailgate after being cut I could presumably break the plastic head on it and drill a small hole for the KeySmart post to fit through.

Seems like you got it figured out, try it out. I had the ajt fob but went back to regular fob, same reason I wanted that little key, if the battery on the fob ever died at least the door could still be opened.

Was hoping someone had done this or could give me a part number for a key they knew worked.

Unfortunately, after posting this I found out the part number I linked about isn't the same profile on the back as our tailgate keys. So it probably won't work.

I had a generic version of the key above cut at a local locksmith. I'm thinking most shops will have the larger blank to match our tiny laser cut keys

So it was just a generic blank flat laser key they cut and it opened the manual locks on the doors/tailgate for your 3rd gen in place of the small emergency key?

Yes, Ilco branded blank. Does doors and tailgate, no problem. I carry it with me while hiking and fishing and leave the (disabled) fob hidden in the truck

That is exactly what I'm looking for! Now to see if anyone local has one.

Any chance that locksmith gave you a receipt with a part number or key number on it?

Does it have the weird triangle notch at the bottom? I assume that's only to lock our stock keys in the stock fob, but never hurts to ask.

If you know your way around a couple tools, you can grind the rubber/plastic off the key to reveal the solid brass tang. Then you’d have to drill a proper sized hole into the tang so you can run the screw through it

It's been a while so no receipt. I went into the shop thinking it might be a long shot but the guy pulled out the blank like it was no big deal. My guess is most any key shop will have it, maybe not the big box stores though

Your locksmith must be better than mine.. Tried both a local locksmith shop and Batteries + Bulbs which also do laser cut keys and struck out at both.

I'd pay good money for a blank like that if I could fine one.

I had emergency key replacements cut that fit into the fob by sending pictures to an eBay seller. It wasn’t cheap but it was really simple.
Figure it may work for you since you’re hacking it up anyway.

You may be able to ask the seller if they have a full size blank they could cut instead of the tiny fob size. Or they probably have other listings for that

Getting a replacement emergency key isn't a problem. Batteries + Bulbs sells them for like $15 bucks and can cut them onsite.

The issue is that I need more metal at the end of the key to drill it out for the KeySmart post than the small emergency key has and I also need more length to clear turning the KeySmart with the key sticking out.

All the blanks for a Tacoma that are a full key are H-Keys for the standard truck, which won't work for our high security keys. @AZPhys13 managed to find a universal blank that met the same dimensions. I'm just not having the same luck.

Just found a locksmith company that I explained what I was trying to do and he actually understood and said he could do the cut-from-a-picture on a full size blank and mail it to me for $23.

I'll be sending them the pictures this afternoon and will report back in a few days if this actually works.

Not sure where my head was at yesterday but TODAY I thought to turn the key over and found the model number: Ilco LXP90-P. Available all over online as long as you have somebody to cut it

That's the info I needed, thank you!

I've already started the process to get a key cut from a lock smith via pictures, but if that ends up being a flop I'm going to go ahead and order that exact blank just in case.

Part number shows a Lexus blank which makes total sense

@AZPhys13 how thick is that new key you bought?

I can't get that locksmith to answer me now, so I went ahead and ordered a key from eBay. Said it cross referenced with Ilco LXP90-P and is showing LXP90, but it's almost three times as thick as the stock emergency key. Don't want to pay to get it cut if it's going to be too large. Seems like it might fit in the keyhole, just barely, but I'm assuming I can't insert it because it doesn't have the security ridges cutout yet?

@kasberry The blank is a few mm thick but the locksmith cut out a deep channel on the side of the key opposite the teeth. Never thought about it but must have been to make it skinny enough to fit the lock.

I'd almost guarantee that's why. Seems like you have a really good locksmith. I bet If I mentioned that to anyone local to me and even showed them the picture I'd still get a "sorry can't do that" response.

I doubt I could get the ridge around the edge, but I could probably achieve the same thickness with a bench grinder if I'm careful.
