They do have more options than Stell/GM/Ford, but strictly speaking in terms of 4x4, 5ft bed, Automatic, GM is offering more for the $$ right now. Of course long term reliability is still up in the air with all of these trucks since they're all relatively new.

Even Ford offers an upgrade to a twin turbo V6 in the Ranger for half the price of the TRD "upgrade package". I don't want to know what Toyota would charge as an option for the 3.4TT V6. :)

You might re-read my post because I have not seen a penguin in Idaho. My theory is that there is a big supply chain issue for something OR related. Fortunately, mine's on a train somewhere between Montana and Mexico.

GM has a long history of selling crappy vehicles. That didn’t suddenly change with the 2024 trucks.

Thats the real economic catch 22 isn't it? We can't all get by being YouTube influencers as a nation.

I think you're missing some important points. You're probably right on some of the hourly wage matters, but all the major auto and others have the whole planet as their customer base. They also have new and strong competition.

My auto industry related life got rocked when the rust belt happened but the exact same solution applies today - have or develop skills where the whole world pays a living wage.

Some classic auto industry cycle is already showing - look at Stellantis. However, last month jobs report shows we're back at pre-pandemic for some important measures. This week's news had Deere and Paccar (Kenworth, Peterbilt) layoffs in news, but other measures still look reasonably healthy.

As already said here, the new Tacoma also has really strong features the competition doesn't have to help keep demand high. The chat about a few halo models from Ford, GM and Toyota is probably off base because it is so little of all they make.

    :)

P.S. I would not complain if getting a TRD OR was more competitive.

That's why jobs data remains fairly healthy if not good, and why there are good trends like gen z interest in trades. Also, people in post-K12 ed are more and more in pursuit of trade, professional and STEM areas.

Totally agree. We have been shopping and shopping for the last several months. Shopped all mid size trucks in the "premium" range from Canyon, Colorado Z71, Ranger Lariat and Tacoma Sport. Within a 200 mile radius of us with the absolute best deals negotiated with all data points like comparing apples to apples on options and then a % given to better re-sale the Tacoma was not actually a PREMIUM price and is very equivalent to the rest. We chose Tacoma with zero brand loyalty in the mix. I get we were shopping one subset in the mid size and others wants and needs could be completely different but for us HP and TQ wasn't the only factor or really even high on the purchase trigger list.

Heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, dual zone climate control, led bed lights, bigger touchscreen, isodynamic performance seats.
    Just what is needed.

As a Floridian, I really wish ventilated seats would catch on as a "lower trim" option or a standard option like air conditioning. Its literally the only option besides 4x4/AWD that I care about.

I'm in New England and I agree with this. If the SR trim had the full tune and coil suspension cooled seats would be the only thing missing.

Agreed. Ventilated seats in hot weather are a godsend. Heated steering wheel and seats I never quite got. Had them on my Silverado and outside of the first 2 minutes or so found them pointless. And got to where I never used them. My hands start sweating and my ass/back were uncomfortably warm no matter the setting even in temperatures in the teens or below. That first 30-60 seconds felt great, but I had to turn them off after a very short time and eventually just never used them.

I went to my Toyota dealer a couple days ago and I was surprised to see 15 Tacomas in the lot.... When the 2016 was released I had to wait a month and a half to get a white one and that was months after the release. My sales guy called me that it's the 4 cylinder, and the price increases have killed The initial excitement Toyota has always had for a new release of the Tacoma.

Toyota has hit a rough spot, with their Grand Highlander (AKA Grand Lemoner's major Transmission issues), Tundra (machining debris in engine causing bearing 1 & 4 to wear out & have already changed bearing part numbers), Tacoma (both the manual & automatic transmission and front differential) products.
Surely Lexus offers their version of these duds, so watch out for Toyotas, for the next couple of years.

We're not seeing that in Idaho/Montana. Far from it, and ORs are rare. All the dealers here have more used Tacomas than new ones, trade-ins.

Don't forget the stop sale on the prius, and the Grand highlander Air bag issue. Toyota recalled 1 million cars in 2024 already. Something major is up at toyota, it isn't a mere coincidence or a shit post...

Which reminds me I still gotta take my 3rd gen into the stealer to make sure my rear wheel doesn't fall off.

No manufacturer of anything produces component inputs of production at a 100% flawless rate. Period. Even the tundra engine issues is lass than 1% failure rate, closer to .5%. 5reported Tacoma auto trans issues isn’t even in the margin of error. Not worth mentioning unless you have an axe to grind, need to justify not buying, or are an opportunistic YouTuber.
