Combined Tundra and Tacoma exceed 2023 in June tho. Also, supply is probably gating the Tacoma sales and interest rates aren't affecting (other than obvious still high) Tundra so probably Tundra is a better/easier buy right now.

Discretionary spending has also been showing a slight decrease for the past few months, with exception to the youngest age bracket.

    My 2016 cost $36,000. In today's dollars, that's $47,500. There's no going back.

That price includes the useless to many of us short bed, craptactular IIHS safety ratings and comes from the recent and current king of recalls. All for same prices as a longer bed TRD OR due near me this week. No thanks.

For the overall post, it is no mystery that Toyota is having a conservative ramp up of a new model. Those of us shopping have had the dealers mention their allocations on hold for parts and software or QC.

If you look at the Kissmygrits GitHub guy's efforts and auto news you see there is sell through. Toyota is in a very different position than light truck makers who still have unsold 2023 models and huge incentives.

I wonder if a guy like David Christ who is VP of sales and financial services at Toyota USA is starting to rethink the pricing strategy of the 2024 Tacoma as sales are definitely not going according the plan. Maybe the 2025 prices will decrease especially now that production should be fully ramped up.

Some of my hard to solve long-bed shopping is with multi-franchise dealers and it has been uttered that anyone thinking Tacoma or Toyota sales have problems doesn't know the whole market right now.

People also have short memories. There are discounts on some Tacomas and that's not unusual at this time of year.

In Canada, the only way sales can drop is if production drops. Most Tacomas already have a buyer lined up before they reach the dealer's lot.

Could be a sales strategy by the dealer or could be true. 2025 will tell.

With 2 plants in Mexico producing Tacomas at a capacity of 250-300k units per year , the big wigs at Toyota have 2 choices: slow down production or lower prices going forward.

Last I checked the f150 wasn’t recalled for a fatal engine flaw with no solution in sight unlike the tundra, so it’s hard to say that ford quality is really that bad. It’s Americas best selling vehicle for a reason.

I mean bed length? That’s a weird hill to die on.

They've at once been able to keep Sienna prices higher same time hybrid and other parts go to some high margin vehicles.

My region has more Land Cruisers and hybrid highest margin Tacomas than modestly equipped.
The F-150 sales round to 6x more than Tundra last year.

The pickup market is divided between work class and what increasingly gets called pavement pansies and cosplay or what people use as cars. The enterprise where I work and small business I own need 6-8 ft bed pickups. I tried the short bed Tacoma liking the fit in garage idea - also tried 5.5 ft bed Fords and 5' to 5'7" Stellantis offerings. Only a 6' Tacoma or bigger full sized pickups could hold what I carry almost constantly. A full size short bed GM meant I had to stuff my 6' ladder sideways and could then not carry other stuff well.

A whole lot of people here just have different use. The short bed models work well for daily driver and off-road recreation.

The bed complaint threw me too, guessing the F150 short bed probably holds more volume compared to a Tacoma long bed as it will be wider and deeper.

Prius and Sienna have been hard to get for quite a while.
True but I don't have a bendable ladder. If we put ladders and event pop-ups sideways we lose space for the commercial size coolers. For personal use a 6' bed lets me put a bike in back without taking it apart. This is really as simple as I know my business needs that are likely different than most Tacoma buyers.
