What is your opinion about Tacoma vs. Tundra?

Which do you feel is more reliable? Durability?

I love my 2019 Tacoma but am thinking about stepping into a Tundra. I am fully aware of increased maintenance expenses, just want to know if it’s worth the additional up front and continuing costs.

    Thank you in advance

I sold my 2001 Tundra TRD when I got my Tacoma.

I wanted another Tundra but was having a hard time finding one.

I decided to test drive a Tacoma and really liked it.

My Tundra was very reliable. I am hoping the Tacoma is as well.

How much is a lot? Are you hauling in bulk like delivery?

Kia Soul, Scion XB would have been better, but you know Toyota don't build Scions any more. I think Nissan stopped building the Cube, but one of those might work.

If you want a Tundra, get a 1st gen double cab TRD off road in sand beige metallic, or what ever its called.

At current fuel prices, the Tundra is out.
Yeah, the new one gets better MPG. But it is too new for me to buy one.
I like to wait at least 3 years, that way they get a the bugs worked out of the new model.
And finding a Tacoma in good shape at a “reasonable” price is next to impossible right now.

Maybe buy a used Ford Transit or something similar?

I agree with this. " gets better MPG" but not by much, low 20s. I haven't seen the numbers for the hybrid engine. With the increase in prices on the Tundras I couldn't justify it. I also worried about how it was the first run of the "next generation". Never know what you are going to get. I have heard mixed reviews when it comes to fit and finish.

    Test drive.

I don't like the Tundra. Its a fine vehicle, but it just... it did not spark joy. The wheel feels disconnected from the road. It separates you from your surroundings, which some people love, but I don't. I want road feel. Solid? sure. Fun? no. Its for those who want a truck to be a couch, because they hate driving.

In this crazy market maybe buy a decent cargo trailer. When the market cools off you can reevaluate a new truck purchase. Good trailers hold their value too so you wouldn't lose much.

The only thing they have in common is they are trucks.
I had a Tacoma. Got a bigger trailer and got a Tundra. I sold the trailer and back in a Tacoma.

That's more reliable than the new turbo Tundra. The 5.7 might be another story.

F150 ecobost and turbo Tundra are probably about the same when it comes to build quality.

I know the my 2011 F150 on level roads could get up to 28 mpg's if i was light on the skinny. My wife has the maverick and it get 30+ awd. But this is a yota forum how dare I side rail it!

Side note I would not buy the new tundra they rushed it out and the 3.5 is just not as reliable.

I will through in my thoughts. I currently own a 2015 tundra with the 5.7. I have owned it since new. It has given me 7 years of awesome reliability. It has never been to the shop other than for oil changes and basic maintenance. It has also never left me stranded. I have 112k miles on it now. I honestly cannot complain it has been an awesome truck. The only thing I dislike which you all know what I’m going to say is the mpg. I did throw 35s on it but it gets 13-14 mpg never see anything above that. Previously I owned a 2005 Tacoma and I loved it as well. It all depends on what you use your vehicle for. I honestly could go back to a Tacoma and be just fine and have often thought about doing so. I think both are a great option just depends on what your needs are

Traded in 2017 Tacoma for a 2021 tundra recently. Tundra is better in almost every regards besides mpg. Power is crazy coming from a Tacoma. Getting about 2mpg worse than I was in my Tacoma. 6.5 bed is perfect for living out of / camping.

I just totaled my 2011 Tundra with 44K miles. I loved that truck. It was my baby I bought an 2017 Tacoma. Only had it 2 weeks, I love it. So much easier to get around as it not as big. I am happy with my choice.

The turbo Tundra just came out. How do you know it's less reliable?
