    I dont believe it is in the VIN Number, but the sticker in the drivers door should show a code for the Manual.

    5th digit for engine and the rest is all trim, no way to find out transmission.

    Ok thanks for the info. Strange as many manufacturers have that in the VIN.

    Thats an oooold link

    The manual 4 cylinder died in 2020 if I recall, so the % is much smaller now. Probably 1%

    Makes sense. When I was shopping for my Tacoma, the salesman said they no longer produce manual trannys unless you special order them. It may even be less than 1%.

    The last manual transmission vehicle I bought new was 1993 Isuzu Red Rodeo--as SUVs started to become popular.

    Background: I'm retired USAF and was reassigned to Dyess AFB, TX in Sept 1993.

    I tried to teach my British wife how to operate manual transmission without success...mind you, she never got her DL from England.

    The Rodeo was traded in 1996 for a new Honda Accord LX Sedan/AT.

    While I was TDY to PSAB, one of my wife's friends decided it was time for my wife to get her DL.

    Upon my return from Saudi Arabia, I was surprised to learn my wife had driven herself and our daughters to the hangar our C-130 parked at.

    Ever since then, I decided that owning an automatic allowed my wife to drive any vehicle we owned.

    Heck, she's even driven my Taco...reluctantly, of course.

    Needless to say, I am proud to drive an AT, taking my wife into consideration.

    PSAB=Prince Sultan Air Base
    TDY=Temporary Duty
    DL=Driver's License
    AT=Automatic Transmission

    He’s wrong, we stocked manuals as regular inventory.

    It is around 1% however. I think our number was 1.5%, but that’s probably slightly skewed as I had a few friends come to me to get a manual.

    Also special orders basically dont exist, you just wait for the allotment to show up to the dealer or another that will trade.

    Yeah pretty much. There’s some tricky ways to get around it in Canada. Most of which involve going to your GM, having him go to his friends at Toyota, and suddenly one appears in your incoming units.

    I love Toyota, but the refusal to take orders (like ford has done for years to great success) pisses me off to no end.

    It wasn’t a huge deal until they had special editions worth ordering.

    The sand coloured fj trail would have been a good investment

    Thanks for your service.

    When you're deployed/mobilized overseas, especially in places like Africa/Middle East, you need to know how to operate manual transmission; otherwise, you won't be able to drive the govt Nissan pick up trucks lol. I know this; I was in theatre less than five years ago. It sucked when some of our service members couldn't drive these pickup trucks. We had to find someone else to take that duty.

    I special-ordered my Tacoma TRD Off Road because I didn't want an automatic tranny.

    Well, sorta...

    What you did was put a deposit down with a dealer to have an allocation tagged for you, as others have said, Toyota doesn't take special orders (unless your in Hawaii), so all you can do is put a deposit and wait for something close. In my case my deposit went in early February of 2022, over the following months my dealer called me and told me which Tacoma were available with a 6MT, none were acceptable to me until the August allocation which had everything I wanted except the color, the allocation was for Barcelona Red and I wanted Blue Crush; I took the red and got it in October.

    I got lucky in 2018 when the exact truck I would have wanted showed up at my local dealer and I happened to be there because they kept calling me and offering me stupid money for my 2015. Test drove an automatic, told the sales guy the truck was nice but I'll pass, I don't care for the way the transmission shifts.

    Him: "Well you know, we just got the same truck in yesterday with a manual."

    Me: ...thinking...damn...I'm gonna buy a new truck... "Let's test drive that sucker!"

    That’s so ironic. Lol I did the same but was specifically waiting for a MT Barcelona Red. The first allocation came in and were all Blue Crush (aside from the standard whites, blacks and greys), which I refused. Then then following allocation in 2023 had a bunch of Barcelona Reds. My first choice in 2022 was Army Green but we never saw any of those.

    Thank you!

    Yeah, it's unfortunate that some aren't taught/don't pursue how to drive manual transmission.

    Heck, I would of never known about glow-plugs if it weren't for learning how to drive a diesel forklift!

    My career-field is Logistics so I've done Warehouse Receiving/Storage & Issue/Pick-up & Delivery operations...amongst other things.

    4 banger MT was last in 2017.
