Lets look at the facts. I'm mostly referring to the 2nd and 3rd gen's.

    1) Cheap, weak, rust-prone c-channel frame (steel most likely sourced from China).
    2) weak leaf springs (steel most likely sourced from China).
    3) Drum brakes.
    4) Weak plastic/Composite bed (supposedly for weight saving and rust prevention. Reality is that it's inexpensive to mfg).
    5) plastic gas tank and gas tank skid plate, if that's what you want to call it.
    5) Super thin crappy paint.
    6) Sub-frame that tears apart like paper if you do any off-roading.
    7) Drivers side front diff. needle bearing.
    8) No tailgate lock on second gen. not sure about 1st gens. (how ridiculous and cheap can you get).

    Sweers should be proud!.

I'll admit that the drive trains and electronics are good to go, at least on the 1st and 2nd gens.

If that’s the case, you might want to sell yours quick while the markets still high.

I really like my truck, not a daily but a fun toy to have.

And I agree with all the points you listed.

I love terms like “probably”, they’re so factual.

Regardless of where steel comes from it’s going to rust if the corrosion prevention coating is subpar.

You're right! Such a cheap crappy truck! You better give yours to me so I can dispose of it properly for you.

Calvin Moon is right to a point about Tacoma's. I really like mine and will keep it but I am concerned about several of the things he mentioned. Its sad to think that Toyota builds one of the best vehicles out there but get away with doing some of what was mentioned. It just gets worse when you look at the other makes. At least Calvin Moon had the balls to say it and not suck it up because you just dropped $40000 on one. My Tacoma is the last Toyota product I will buy after driving nothing but Toyota's since 1989. Toyota customer service killed it for me with them. I just bought a new Mazda CX5.

Op is obviously stirring the pot but he isn't wrong lol. That being said, every single vehicle by every manufacturer has flaws, no such thing as a perfect truck or car

Let your feet vote where your dollars are to go. I happened to have driven Toyotas since the year 2000 and presently have three Tacomas. Tundra, Highlander, Tacoma, Tacoma and Tacoma. I am and have been a mechanic by trade and will stay the hell away from seriously crappy stuff and Toyota fits the bill by my standards.
I have been around long enough to know foolish people and the lack of knowledge. So walk with your head held high with the garbage that you drive and I will see you on the highway broken down.
Some years ago Toyota got rid of its last union controlled manufacturing facility so they cut costs there. Other auto makers are saddled with the high cost of labor and resort to cheaper manufactured auto parts. The automotive industry is competitive and the domestic industry will sell you on cheap bill of goods although they have gotten better at quality.
I have had a Tundra for 20 years that outlasted all of my peers two and three times over. Buy once cry once they say. I guarantee you that you will inevitability spend more in the long run in transportation should you go a cheaper route.
I have known some people who never care about the vehicle they drive, they don't care about the type or model as long as its cheap like $2500.00 or so, more power to them however I am of the old school that you buy quality once and hang on to it.
If you want quality look for corrosion control in these areas.
    1. Body panels
    2. Electrical and electrical connections.
    3. Powertrain
    4. Suspension

The Tacoma powertrain ie.. engine, transmission, transfer ect are produced using a higher quality steel and higher quality manufacturing trust me I know.

Pound for pound and dollar per dollar you cannot lose when buying a Toyota Tacoma period.

@Calvinmoon "SIR". It's a free world and You can say what you want here but here are another set of FACTs.

While stopped at a light with my most cherished possession behind the wheel my wife was hit by a "distracted" driver at 55 MPH with no evidence that the driver EVER hit their fucking brakes. She has neck and back issues now but that cheap frame and bed saved her life. That POS tank full of 21 gallons of gas never leaked a drop.

That crap truck was rebuilt on a new frame at 30K miles and recently hit 100K+ trouble free miles. With all due respect Mr Calvin Moon "SIR" you can take your facts and your head and whatever alternative to a Tacoma you want to drive "SIR" and direct them right up you A$$. And 5 years later "SIR" I can sell the POS truck with 100K+ miles for well more than 60% of what I paid for it.

And those "SIR" are my FACTS.
