Alright, so you guys probably want to know why I'm dumb enough to do this:crazy:
First off.. I MOD EVERYTHING. Yes, it's a disease and I can't leave anything alone. Doesn't help I like fast things too. It all started with Twin Turboing the stock 3.5L. It ran OK, but I eventually blew it up. TBH I never was a fan of the V6. The turbos were just a bandaid on cancer. Ripped out the motor and started brainstorming what I could swap in. V8 Tundra engine was the first to come to mind. Problem is... it's a lot of work(wiring, sensors, computers, etc) for the HP you get (380hp)...not worth it. Yes, you can strap a blower on but still you are in the high 400's. I wanted to keep the engine "in the family" so I went to the other end extreme and ordered a 1000HP 2JZ motor. Fast forward 1 year and delay after delay I was getting frustrated and fed up. I went back to the V8 idea and hooked up with a company called Cleveland power and performance. They specialize in taking apart whole/running vehicles and swapping everything on to a pallet where it literally starts up and runs. I was looking for a Trackhawk or TRX pull out (for the t-case and 4wd retention). But those are far and few between, so I settled on a Hellcat engine/trans. 707hp will be a good starting point and with cam, heads, ported blower/e85 we can get it to my 1,000HP goal. Honestly, I think this engine will suite the Tacoma better than a 2JZ. It will have low down TQ, a smooth 8speed automatic, that supercharger whine, and I can finally run TRUE DUAL bedside exhaust out each side. Will it it? Who knows... but I am confident in my local fab shop we can shoe horn it in. Trans tunnel will definitely need to be massaged...the 8spd is pretty bulky. It will be 2WD for now, but later on I'll look into an atlas and front diff. For the rear end I am running a custom DANA 60, so it will handle the power. This truck will be a frankenstein Tacoma as I am using the gauges/radio/key fob/ push to start button/steering column from the SRT Hellcat. While the BCM, and all other electronics will be Original Toyota.

The begging question is what shall we call it???

I'll start a build thread on it, but in the meantime here is some sweet music for your ears, and how a Taco SHOULD SOUND.

I was going to ask about a rolling chassis. Wouldn't it just be easier to graft the truck onto one of theirs?

Engine swap is one thing. But a frame/body swap is a whole new can of worms. My Tacoma frame has already been reinforced, boxed, etc. I am trying to keep it as much as a "Tacoma" interior/exterior as I can. I have seen other trucks with engine swaps but they have full fiberglass front ends, stripped interiors, and nothing left of a Toyota but some body panels and glass.

One can never have too many light bars.
Toyota dropped a supercharged 5.7 V8 in an X-Runner for shits and gigs. With enough money you can do anything. Even if that anything is riding a penis shaped rocket to space.
