Has anyone seen a commercially available net that would work as an "attic" net for a double cab? Something similar to the Blue Ridge Gear one for a Forerunner: https://www.blueridgeoverlandgear.com/4Runner-Attic-p/21fr5at-1.htm

Looking for a nice place to semi permanently keep a couple jackets out of the way, yet easily accessible.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
That sounds like a "great" idea --put your stuff up there that needs "airing-out" -"-( "Store damp items that need airing" ) That is a quote from their ad!!! HUH? would that be all of your families' stinky sneakers? That would be a "fun" ride home from a river camping trip. wait --why not "air out" everyones dirty underwear as well?
Who dreams this stuff up, and what were they smoking?
I am leaving for the nite on that one!

markmizzou is a knuckle head. I just talked to the guys at Blue Ridge Overland Gear and they said they have the design in the works and should be releasing the final product soon on their website for sale. If you watch the first episode in the new youtube series by Mountain State Overland they have on in their 3rd Gen.

I’ve toyed with this idea in my 2nd gen using stock mounting points and all I can say is you are gonna lose a ton of headspace in the rear the further the net goes back to the rear window. So if you regularly have rear passengers they are going to hate it. Which means ideally the net would sit further to the middle of the roof, but still not impede the front seat people, making it skinny and not really worthwhile.

I looked up that vid clip of the interior net. I didn’t spot a 3rd gen but I saw it in a 2nd gen. The guy in the rear seat is almost nearly head into to the net right before I screenshotted the below pic. As soon as you put stuff in it that headspace is gone.

It’s a cool idea I just think someone really needs to put some thought into it to make it actually practical. I’ve tried to mount one I bought from the rear roof handles to the little SRS puck you can see in the screenshot above near the front passenger window, and it still is just in the way, which is why this works so much better in a 4Runner or FJ, or a taco that has the rear seats pulled and no passengers.

Edit: I contacted Raingler nets at one point to see if they’d do a custom one of there own out of the heavier duty webbing, but I think the lighter stuff like Blue Ridge makes theirs out of is probably the way to go for a Tacoma.

My rear seats are folded down with a dog platform on them 99% of the time so it's perfect for me.

    What one did you buy?

Yeah so it would work well for you in that case since no rear passenger, minus the pup.

I bought a universal net that fit the rear space. I tried mounting in multiple configurations and it just wasn’t working out for my purposes, but if you have no one in the rear seat you could probably just measure out the space you want the net to span and get something way less than a $100 Blue ridge net and diy it. But then again if I had to do it again I’d ratber just buy something fit for the truck.

Didn't work as in it interfered with your passengers or couldn't get it to attach well?

Got a link to what you bought by any chance?

I reached out to BROG after seeing the attic in their Tacoma. They said they will be releasing it "soon". I currently have one in my Leer topper and like the idea of having one in the cab too.

It would interfere with passengers in my case. I mounted it like in the screenshot above using rear roof handles and the coat hanger hooks. I also ran it from the rear handles to the SRS headliner pucks (have nothing to actually do with the airbag directly). And as a last ditch effort I tried mounting it to span the section above front seats, from sun visor mounts to SRS pucks and it was too floppy and covers the overhead console of course. I actually liked that concept better for like holding maps and stuff but I just decided to scrap it.

I don’t have a link unfortunately, I bought it off eBay 2+ yrs ago. Just measured my space and went with something that fit well when stretched out taught.

I could never find the pic again, but my inspiration came from an old 1st gen build on ExpeditionWest website.

And I also saw a 4th gen 4Runner owner put Land Rover overhead nets above his sun visors, but never had the guts to put the holes on my headliner for that one. It looked real good though and practical.

I think it's an interesting idea. I bought a double-cab to be able to have passengers, but 99% of the time the back seats hold gear not people. In general, (hint to vendors) I think there's a huge opportunity for well-designed back seat storage products that don't require rear seat removal. I've taken the seats out for one trip ... it's not difficult, but takes a lot more time than unclipping some fabric or a snap-in bracket or two.

That's pretty cool, and I could just route some bungees/elastic cord through the slots for jackets but I imagine it's going to be pretty expensive and I would worry about passengers hitting their head on it (a net would be easier/quicker to remove too).
