Tacoma basically the same size as a Tundra?

I walked out of work yesterday evening to find this 1st gen Tundra parked beside my 2nd Gen
Tacoma. What I noticed right away was the similarity in size. Now mine is a 4X4 and the Tundra was a 4X2 but the overall body dimensions were very close. In person actually closer than than what the pictures show.

    upload_2017-8-8_11-2-35.jpg
Both look to be very close in width. Cab on the Tundra maybe slightly taller.

    Comparing cab length size.
As you can see he was parked slightly in front of me.

Both cabs are almost identical in length.

And this was a 4 door Tundra.

This is true, trucks seem to have gotten larger the past decade. I expect this trend will continue until some point it is very hard top find any manufacturer still making a smaller truck.

That first gen Tundra is a great truck. If I could have found a good, clean, low milage one, I would have got it instead of my Tacoma. But they are in demand and hard to find.

Toyota had to make them bigger because they were getting crushed in the market place by all the bros wanting 'big' trucks to fit in on the oil-patch.

That Tundra and the Tacoma are basically the same size as full-size pickups in the US from the 80s and early 90s. Perfect size for a truck.

Yup. A 2000 Tundra was my first truck, and I drove it for about 10 years(After my mom bought it new and had it for about 6). Very good truck considering how well it held up with me as a dumbass teenager...

It's one of the reasons I got a Taco, I wanted something with a similar size and reliability. I miss the power of the V8, don't miss the mileage.

Yes, I owned a new Tundra years ago. The Tacoma drives better but the Tundra had better power.

    Need to marry the 2. V8 Tacoma...

Now the question is. Did Toyota ever offer any for Sale equipped like this? Or was it just a concept truck?

Those Tundra DC are long...a tick longer than a current Crewmax. I really liked my '02 Tundra, bought new. The 1st gen Tundra was kind of a 3/4 scale full sizer, anyway. About perfect dimensions, which is why I'm in a Taco now. I had a '12 Crewmax, and it was larger than what I needed. Great truck, though.

If Toyota still made the 1st gen Tundra with the 4.7, I would have picked that up in a heartbeat.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I love mine. I've always thought of it as a V8 Tacoma due to it being 7/8th of a full size truck.

I wonder what it would look like size wise if one of those 2 Tundras parked beside of me?

    Like, so many.
I made a thread about this recently that you might find interesting. I compared the dimensions of various generations and there was an interesting discussion about why the Tacomas are growing larger.

In March I traded my 2001 Tundra for my Taco. I later found out the dealer sold my Tundra the very next day.

How much Trade in did you get. My dealer offered $1500, I said no. Then 20 minutes later upped it to $3000.

The auto market has already done away with term "Compact Truck" and replaced it with "Mid-size."
