    Hello all,

This might just be a phase for now but for the past week, I've been looking in to getting a truck and trading in my small, but mighty VW Golf R.
Lately, I have found myself needing more space in my car by picking up new hobbies such as snowboarding, etc., and could really use the extra space (or perhaps just get a roof rack).
I've narrowed my list down to three trucks - Tacoma, 4runner and the new JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
I really like the way the Tacoma TRD Off road looks, especially the TRD Pro in Cement.
The only issue I have is that I might find the bed of the truck not so useful to me, since I don't really need to haul big stuff that will require an open-bed pick up truck. However, I really like the new Tacoma and am really torn between the 3 aforementioned trucks.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and I look forward to learning more about the Tacoma's and this forum.

    Thanks,
    Mic

    Welcome to the Forum.
The bed of the truck is ALWAYS useful. And it doesn't have to be "open".
Lots of options such as hard toppers, softoppers and hard and soft tonneau covers. In double cab configuration, you can haul people as well as stuff.
I do like 5th gen 4Runners...a lot, and if I didn't have my FJ, I'd probably own one.
Can't speak first hand about the Jeep, but comfort and reliability issues seem to come up a lot here.
    Good luck with your decision.

    Thanks for your input!
I’m just afraid that I will find the bed of it to be less convenient versus having, say, an in-car storage such as the 4runner or jeep i.e. I don’t have to worry about stuff getting stolen or wet or hot/cold if I had my stuff inside the car as opposed to having it on the bed of the truck... and I know I can get a cover for it but I still feel like having the in-car space is more vital to me than the truck bed.

With that being said, the Tacoma is still on top of my list, mainly coz of it’s looks

You can have a Tacoma or you can have a Jeep, or you can have BOTH!!!!!!

Jeeps are for women. Get the Tacoma, it's like a 4runner with the utility of a truck

As a Cement PRO owner, I would say get the JL Wrangler pickup that the roof comes off of

When I was shopping to replace our Rav4 I was at the same crossroads as you. I had an OLD beat up Tundra already, so I "knew" I needed a truck. That said I was DDing a Rav4 and loved it but it was starting to nickel and dime us. We test drove a handful of wranglers, and some 4runners.

For the price of a wrangler unlimited (a base model) we saw a 4runner trail premium. LOVED the hell out of that 4R!

Ultimately went with the Tacoma for the versatility of a truck. The shining part of this however, is that my wife REALLY liked that 4R too... We were lucky enough about a year later to find one very similar and she's got the 4R and I have the Tacoma.

Too many but also not enough mods
Reliability is always a concern with Jeep and FCA. Main reason I traded in Wrangler for Tacoma.
