    6A786480-103D-45FC-94F8-BC4CC479ECD6.jpg Hi guys!

I’m pretty new to Tacoma World so not sure if this has already been answered.

I recently broke my left rear axle and will need to replace the whole assembly. My setup is a crew cab, (4Dr) 6 Cylinder and needs AT (3.91) ratio. It’s a sport model so originally it’s w/o electronic locking differential.

I was thinking might as well buy an assembly with an electronic locking differential. How would the controls need to be set up in the interior? Is it simple or pretty complex?

Any insight would be very grateful.

I thought @BigWhiteTRD just helped someone do exactly this. There was a thread yesterday or the day before.

    Sometimes timing is just sublime...
(and of course @fuzzydoodle is the one who came up with the concept, put his money on the line, made it happen, and documented it... so kudos to him)

Super easy dude, I'm (obviously), all for it, but just your axle shaft broke and you can't replace it? Its fairly easy...

As for the swap, super easy if your planning on buying a while assembly, and as time goes on, I'm sure more wrecked ones (like I bought) are becoming available. The wiring is a easy as where you want the switch.

@fuzzydoodle I wish it was just the shaft, that's +/- $300 vs $1800 for the assembly. I can double check with the mechanic I'm working with, but sounds like it's the whole thing.

Ahh, so the axle housing itself? Cracked? Hit a boulder?? I'm with the above, how?

I'm not sure if that harness would even work for you, you may have to do the leg work on it. The sport does not have the same vehicle harness, body control module, or I believe even ECU to even process the rear locker even being a thing (unless I dont interpret that harness correctly).

All and all it probably cost me 50-60 bucks in parts, including the color matched locker switch, two resistors, diodes, a harness w/relay, and a little wire.

Also as an afterthought, if you do purchase the axle assembly, I would just confirm they're sending the axle harness as well (the pigtail with the sensor/locker plugs), I dont see why they wouldn't, but, I've found myself burned to many times leaving things to chance and assumption.

I dont think Lapoltba 's 2wheel low harness would do much (anything) for you.

The short story is a car jumped out in front of me out of a driveway, we collided..I went up a hill, at around 40mph, was airborne and landed on a parked car. Was a pretty bad wreck, but thank God everyone came out alive. Also good thing engine is for the most part intact.
