I just had my 2017 Tacoma in for its 25,000 mile service. Toyota Care plus covered it even though I was several months outside the 2 year period. After it was done the service manager gave me info about buying Toyota Care Plus to extend the Toyota Care to 4 years/45,000 miles.

I plan on continuing to use the dealer for scheduled maintenance, if they're not outrageously expensive. The Toyota Care Plus costs $329, but the service manager said the 30,000 mile service would cost $250 by itself. Is this normal? Do they really do that much more at 30,000 miles?

pretty sure they do the diff and transfer case fluid changes at 30k, so yeah that'd be more than a regular check-up.....although are you sure that's included? I'm not sure it is...

The 30,000 mile service is just a tire rotation and oil change. Major service is every 60k miles because they recommend replacement of spark plugs.

Additional recommended service falls under the Special Operating Conditions which Toyota Care does not cover. "*ToyotaCare covers normal factory scheduled maintenance"

Getting the 4 year/45k Toyota care will get you, two more oil changes and 4 more tire rotations...you don't save anything, it's basically prepaid maintenance

Pretty sure that Toyota Care package just includes oil changes. Any additional fluids for diff or transfer case is not included and is additional. At least thats what I read in the fine print.

Get it in writing that they will do ALL REQUIRED MAINT AT THE 30K SERVICE. Meaning plugs, diffs and anything else but useless tire rotation and oil changes. Happened to many people that fell for that shit.

No spark plug change at 30k, they are not due till 60k. Big waste of money for that plan covering a couple of oil changes and tire rotations

You can probably save money pay as you go and keep an eye out for dealer service coupons, just look up the dealers service website. If you have multiple dealers around you can usually get some competitive marketing to get you in. No reason to stick to the same dealer if’s other one turns out to be a better value or experience.
My favorite dealer I moved away from, we had WiFi, popcorn soda and coffee machine and soft serve ice Cream! They even welcomed my dogs has dog dishes and biscuits in the waiting area.

The service area was clearly visible and I could go talk to an adviser with any special request..such as , I didn’t see anyone lube my drive shafts. Or can you do a five tire rotation in my FJ, or please only use hand tools on my aluminum skid plates bolts. Always did everything to make me and my dogs happy.

    That was Durango motor company.

I bought a package for 300 for 6 oil changes and 6 tire rotations for 60k miles, but after this last one where the tech left oil all over the frame and front splash shield, I wasn’t very happy with it..

Here you go. Just remember, if the dealer is trying to sell you a product it is not to take a loss or break even. They are in it to make a profit. Also take note, all of those items on the "inspect" portion are just looking at it and saying, yep looks good.

Yeah, but don’t you want someone with experience and technician in their job title to check your floor mat installation? You aren’t going to be able to b.s. your way through that yourself by watching a YouTube video. $300 is a steal.

The secret to a truck that lasts a long time is checkin' up on stuff.

If it's something you like to do, then the up from cost is probably not worth it.

I enjoyed doing basic maintenance when I was younger, but no longer. In 27,000 miles, I think I've opened the hood about 3 times. And the first time was to check that they put in an engine.

So, unless the cost is way out of line (and that's subjective), I'm OK with the dealer doin' the lookin'. Of course, I like the dealer I work with.

Yeah, I saw this, that's why I was questioning the $250.

The 2nd gen had spark plugs 30k which was overkill.

The most important item here is to check the installation of the floor mat at 30k….. well worth the $329 if you ask me.

They only did the oil, filter and inspection on my 30,000 mi. service, which was complimentary since the screwed up on the 20,000 mi. Toyota care service.
