Has anyone ever tried to take the stock T4.2 bulb base from the ac controls and replace the halogen bulb in the base with a led 2 lead diode. This is opposed to buying new ones that are SMD leds and not wide angle enough to light up all the tubes inside. I’ve tried the single smd replacement and the double smd replacement from Amazon and they both suck in the ac controls. It looks like it would be a simple task, but I don’t know the ramifications of going from a small 12 volt halogen to a 3 volt led. The SMD bulbs are listed as 12 volts also….also the stock bulbs are a full 18 years old, would I be best off just getting fresh halogen replacements?

If the stockers have lasted 18 yrs.... get some new stock halogen bulbs for 2 bucks a piece and call it good.
