I've been seeing some guys posting about rust and paint bubbling on the lower drivers side door sill on some third gens. Checked mine and, sure enough, it's there. Make sure you go check.

Mine is a 2018, purchased new in September of last year. Garage kept and washed often...

This is what mine looks like:

I see you have had it undercoated also, visible plug? I have had this problem fixed under warranty. Was a problem with the 2nd gen also, prep problem maybe.

I’ve got the same problem on my drivers side....a little dirty in the picture but you can clearly see the rust. And I've had Krown on mine since about 2 weeks after I got the truck.

Going to give this TSB a go next time I’m at the dealer

That to me, looks like metal shaving that bit in to paint and rusted. Guessing whom ever drilled for rust protection, never took great care to prevent/clean/protect this from happening. Looks only to be on surface.

Not so much. This is a common problem. Peel up the cover over the pinch weld, this is where the rust starts.

You all are welcome. I had to go through this last fall and ended up getting all 4 door sills repaired. good news is the finish is great and I can not see or notice any repairs. My dealer had to get approval from MaYota, but it got done. Originally my dealer tried to pin it on my Prinsu somehow lol.

So, how can we prevent this from happening?

Damn man! Were all four showing signs, or they repaired as prevention?

I only noticed it in 2 sills myself, but they did all 4 so i'm guessing word came down from the top to address all of them for prevention. Probably recognized an issue with production maybe.

How much do you know about what they did? Seems to me if it's rusting on the edge of the pinch like in your picture, it'd be hard for them to actually fix that on the back side without cutting and welding.

Not much if i'm honest. I agree, but I figure I won't own it long enough to worry too much. I just pop off my sill covers occasionally and keep an eye on it. My dealer does pretty well by my so if I do have a problem soon, I expect them to do the right thing. If not, i'll deal with it.

Yeah, that's why I ask; I planned on keeping this thing until it fell apart. Starting to wonder if that will be as far in the future as I'd expected.

Lol. I'm not too worried, I am not buying a new truck every 2 years or anything, but I figured if need be they could just drill the weld and spread it apart, but I doubt they did that. They had it about 5 days or so.

Great. Not exactly comforting to see having just bought a new '19 TDR Sport DCLB 4WD. Toyota must be slipping a bit.
