Hey guys, sorry if this seems like a dumb question but i tried doing some searching and didn't find any concrete answer.

So i just bought a brand new 22 Tacoma OR and I am going to switch out the wheels and tires to a new set. I have the new set already but I wanted to use the TPMS sensors from my stock set. I called 2 different shops and asked if they could do that and asked the price and both shops seemed confused and could not give me a true answer because they said they arent sure if once they remove the TPMS from the stock tires if they will lose connection and all the configuration settings and need to be reprogrammed.

Does anyone know what the case is for the new 22 trucks? Is it as simple as removing the sensors from the stock wheels and putting them in the new ones and we are good to go and the computer will pick them up or if they have to be completely reprogrammed? Both shops said if its a simple swap its like $20 a tire but if they need to be reprogrammed its about $125-150 a tire.

    Thanks for any input!

Tire shops can easily reprogram tpms valves.
The valves can be swapped out, the only time there is an issue is if you go from steel to aluminum wheels, different valve angles.
If the shop says they don’t know how to setup your tpms that’s a bad sign.
Charging 125$ a wheel is crazy for reprogramming, takes just a few minutes.

Stock OEM sensors can not be reprogrammed. They are not cloneable sensors.
Metal valve body sensors can be moved to other wheels of the same material. They have a metal nut to unthread and the sensor comes out. Toyota has new sensor valve body rubber seal kits.

If you can have the OEM sensors removed from your OEM wheels and installed in your new wheels, there is no reprogramming of the ECU/PCM of your truck. Just follow the owners manual for the tire rotation TPMS reset button near your left shin.

Thanks man, ill take a look. That is what i had asked them. I said can you simply just remove the TPMS sensors from my OEM wheels and put them in the new ones and thats when he said well with newer vehicles most of the time you can't do that and when you remove them it screws them up and you need to get new ones. I was just wondering if you can simply remove them and put them in new wheels and be good to go but he doesn't seem to know that answer.

That’s total BS! Metal sensors are removable. Rubber valve body’s are not although the sensor body unbolts from the stem.
    Talk to other shops!
