    Hello Gents,
This is my running list of swing away tire carries for 2nd gen Tacomas. I've been shopping for tire carriers and high clearance wrap around rear bumpers and found a bunch of great of choices. I've been taking notes to help with my choice, and figured I'd post my notes for anyone looking. Most offer these standard features: single or dual Jerry can holders, mounts for hi-lift and shovel, and drop down camp table. A few offer special extras: lock in the open position, antenna mounts, backup camera relocation. And considering most of these come from custom fabrication shops I'm sure you can request custom fab.

A few of my 'nice to haves':
A shop relatively close in case I want to drive out and have them help with the install. Also, made in America! And save on shipping.
Carrier/gear relatively easy to remove for when I'm not overlanding. I have premium AAA, so I don't need to lug all this stuff on my daily commute. Leaving the tire on is fine, but I don't need the rest of the kit.
Ability to customize, I have ideas.
Not too heavy, it needs to carry a tire, not stop a tank. Some people see a glass half full, others half empty, but an engineer sees the glass was built larger than was needed.

Did I miss any great tire carriers? What do you guys think?

Highly regarded brand on TacomaWorld. Hinge looks well engineered. This is my favorite style of latch handle. Looks like it could stop a tank.
Weight: 140 lb bumper, 50 lb carrier.

Great looking carrier, tire is angled in a little, that is a pretty cool look. Additional options: locks open, telescoping light over camp table. The carrier is a little shorter, with the tire closer to the hinge, add-ons go on stamped steel. This looks like a much simpler and lighter option than the ones that use solid chunks of steel.

Seems to be one of the most cost effective. Doesn't look overbuilt, ie, not a ton of extra metal. It has more stamped steel and the right amount of tubing. What's going on with that latch?
    Weigtht: 125 lbs

    Wilco Offroad
    Santa Ana, CA
Wilco has a few interesting options.
    Veritcal mount: https://www.wilcooffroad.com/shop/tiregate-vertical-mount-toyota/
Swing out tail gate replacement/conversion. I'd ask for solid back plate so it holds rocks/mulch. This replaces the tail gate, that's a weight savings, but you can't carry loose loads and it probably won't work with a camper shell. I like that it has 4 contact points, but don't like that I have to pull two handles to open it. Doesn't have some of the features the other guys have, such as a camp table, and there's no tail gate to act as a table.
Horizontal mount: https://www.wilcooffroad.com/shop/tiregate-racerunner-toyota/ Doesn't meet my personal needs, but if you're racing this is probably a cool solution.
The Hitchgate: https://www.wilcooffroad.com/shop/hitchgate-tire-carrier-toyota/ Personally I would never use this. I would think my truck would wag it right off and my gas, tire, and hi-lift would be lost on the trail. It just seems like the side to side torsion would torque it right off if you have enough weight on it. It's cute when you say, "my truck wagged his tail off" when you lose an antenna, but not great when you lose your recovery gear. However, if you want a removable and configurable system this could be a great way to go. Imagine, you can put it on your truck, your wife's car, and lend it to a friend.

These guys have the handle style I like. One of their bumpers has a dual swing out, check it. Their wrap around bumper doesn't have the hidden hitch behind a flip up license plate that some of the other guys have. They have some great add-on options, such as propane tank mount.

    All Pro Offroad
Victor, MT The tube frame of the dual swing out is the best engineering I've seen. The total package is shorter when open. The changeable accessory holders is a good idea. Their wrap around bumper does not require cutting the body of the truck, but also isn't as high-clearance as the others. I guess that's good if you don't want to cut your truck. I think this is my favorite swing out design but maybe my least favorite bumper. They do have aluminum options.

They promise 2nd gen bumpers in the future. They have an inexpensive Bed Rail CB Mount.

    Brute Force Fab

I saw someone here had their carrier, but their images don't currently load on their website, so I'll check back later.

    Mobtown Offroad
    https://mobtownoffroad.com/product/bumper-1/
The bumpers look super solid. There's an option for wrap around and regular bumpers.

    Aluminess
    http://www.aluminess.com/toyota/toyota-tacoma-2005-2011/rear-bumper/
Aluminess gets and honorable mention for having lockable boxes as an option, but they don't have a wrap around bumper, so it's not exactly what I was looking for. But the dual swing is pretty awesome!

I made my own from buying the latch and hinge from FWInovations. I think Relentless has parts also.

Our latch has been updated, I'll be posting info on the update soon. All current orders are receiving the update.
Also to note, our pivots are custom made for us to our spec and are double shear for extra strength and rigidity compared to most competitors shank-style single shear.

mine was custom from a local fab, i would look at swingouts with double shear if you plan on having lots of weight on it.

edit- also considered you cap (if you have one), if you have something angled you will want your tire to angle instead of sitting straight

I'll put in my plug for Slee Offroad from Golden, Colorado
    http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/bumpers/rear_bumpers_05-15_tacoma.htm

Great product and pretty standard installation. My biggest concern about the bumper-mounted spare was potential rattling, flexing, and vibration resulting from "spirited" off road driving. After a weekend in Baja, I can safely say that this is a solid, movement-free bumper. Their bumper allowed me to keep my rated hitch and came with a bracket to relocate the backup camera, the Rotopax mount and a Hi-Lift mount. As a bonus, the anodized spindle cover is a work of art!
