I have a 2010 Tacoma reg cab 5spd with 4.10s I also have the 3rd member out of an 07 Tacoma with the factory LSD which allegedly also has 4.10s has anyone swapped these two 3rd members.

I have done a lot of research and cannot confirm that the LSD is in fact 4.10s. Before I tear into my axel I would like to know if anyone else has done this.

    Thanks in advance!

As long as both rears are 8.4 and both 4.10 it is an easy swap. I did the same swap on my 2012 4.0 l. I ordered a new center section(3rd member) right from Toyota with LSD but mine had 3.73 gears for the v-6.

That is for locker vs no locker, which are different sizes.

While you have the part, using something like a gear driven Detroit Trutrac torsion LSD will be significantly better than the factory's clutch pack LSD.

That is what makes me nervous is that they are two different ratios. I was told by the donor that it was 4.10 but I don't know how to confirm the ratio...that being said it is a very easy swap provided the ratio is the same

I Am not 100%sure but I'm pretty positive they are both the Toyota 8.4, I can measure the one in my garage but not the one on the truck until it is out of the truck. I know the donor came out of a 2007 4.0L v6 and I was told it was a 4.10 which I believe to be true as I scored the 3rd member out of a an axel that had been swapped. The only reason I am doing it is that I have LSD 3rd sitting in my garage and it would be nice to have the LSD. I know there are better options but I have the potential to do this swap for almost nothing out of pocket!

    They're all 8.0"

The moniker 8.4 is false and confusing. If both trucks are non e locker, the swap will work.

    If the donor truck is a 4 cyl, it's a 4.10. If the donor is a 6 cyl, it's 3.73.

The more I've read the more confused I am about the 8.0 vs 8.4. that being said the donor was a 4.0 so I guess I'm SOL? I was hoping for some reason that I have not been able to find the LSD diffs would be 4.10s like I was told it was

All 4.0 trucks come with 3.73

The 8.4 designation is given simply because it's stronger than the e locker 3rd member. It's still an 8 inch ring gear.

    A thing or two...
Count the number of teeth on the ring and the number of teeth on the pinion. Divide the larger number by the smaller number. That will tell you what the gear ratio is. But like was mentioned...if it came out of a v6 and hasn't been re-geared, it is 3.73.

Is it possible to swap the E-locker carrier into a LSD axle housing?

Maybe so, but it seems the two aren't compatible. Everyone list the gears for each axle separately and with different part numbers. ECGS also shows the 8.4" gears as weighing significantly more.
