Had anyone done this? I have a 60 buck special that needs a firing pin. Checked YouTube looks easy enough..

    Go ahead and try it...
There are sometimes several different firing pin types over the years. SO, make sure your replacement matches the one coming off before you get too excited.
Also, "slave pins" will help you retain your sanity. I hate the transfer bar actions (have worn out the firing pins on 2). The rebounding hammer actions they turned out seem MUCH better. Good luck with this.

OK, I'm starting to have flashbacks :D
If you shoulder the shotgun and point it forward like you were going to shoot it, the pins would be drifted out from right to left-- when you look at the protruding part of the pins, you'll see the knurling on one end. Which will be the fat end.

The pins keep the components of the trigger group together and located in the action. If you are feeling impatient or ham handed, utilize ANY excuse to postpone disassembly :anonymous:

It's an old h&r 20ga. Looks like one pin holds it in. Need to get on it. But I'm too busy playing with my new beretta blackwing 20ga over/under..the h&r will be a camping gun.

Were you able to fix it? I have an h&r 20 gauge with the same issue, my Google searches led me here

There was an H&R enthusiasts website!, a while back. The take home lesson I saw was that to disassemble the action, one will then have to fabricate "slave pins" to then reassemble.
Also, the firing pins can differ from era to era. Remember how you disassemble, save your old, broken firing pin, and try to order the "new" pin to match. Or you could hit up a friend with a lathe.
Googling H&R repair centers used to come up with a list of gunsmiths who fix them.
I personally mistrust/hate the transfer bar versions, and ONLY like the rebounding hammer actions.
If you guys get into shooting steel shot, don't use any shot bigger than #4 or over 1,400fps in non-steel proofed weapons.
I use and like TPS steel shot wads in 28 and .410 from Ballistic Products website. Good protection, and NONE of my shotguns are steel shot proofed. Single shot break opens were made to be reloaded for.
