Hey all. For those of you who have installed these. What did you do with the drivers? I tried the Morimoto 2stroke 2.0s out and while they weren’t bad they weren’t amazing either. But their drivers were small and more hollow and the sv4 are big/heavy. I tucked the morimotos in open space and didn’t have an issue but these seem like if I don’t do something with them they will clank around and maybe get damaged?

How has the performance been? Mine will be arriving soon so I'll let you know what I end up doing with mine.

I’ve been extremely happy with them.

You also need to research the type of LEDs you are getting. Headlight Revolution, for example, tests many different lights in the most common housings and gives their findings. A lot of people complain about LEDs being blinding, but don't consider that they aren't so blinding when they're properly aligned or LEDs that properly mimic the light from the stock bulb by placing the LED chip in the approximate location and size of the original filament. There are a lot of LEDs out there that do not do this very well, if at all.

The SV.4 was also not featured in the test from that thread (note: the S-V.4 from Headlight Revolution is not the same as the Supernova V.4). I do believe Headlight Revolution is an affiliate of GTR Lighting, but don't always regard GTR Lighting bulbs as the best.

the Sv.4 from HR is the supernovas. But don’t even try to tell people LED is a good option. People will just fight with you. I’ve had multiple LED bulbs and they weren’t good. The sv4 are quite good. I have not tried the gtr ultra 3. I have the ones below and the box says supernova

There's a Supernova knock off they did a video on mentioning, and showing, how different they are.

    https://youtu.be/sYiKpkZzQN4

That being said, I just installed the S-V.4 todayatoday have been happy with it. I made sure I didn't change the cutoff line from stock as well, but haven't tried them at night just yet.

HR shows the GTR Lighting Ultra 2's are brighter in the Tacoma housing, but when I asked them they still recommended the S-V.4 over the Ultra 2 bulbs.

Gotcha. Yeah I’ve had mine for a couple months and really really like them. What did you do with the drivers?

I ran these for a bit in my 2018. They we OK at best. I ran these in my low beams, high beams and yellow ones in my fogs. They were decent in the high beam and fog light locations but performed very poorly in my low beams. They were TERRIBLE in any type of participation.

Ultimately, I removed them from my low beams and replaced with the H9 bulbs and was much happier.

So far they're just hanging but they're kind of resting against the other wires in the harness area so I don't feel they have a ton of room for movement in general.

What did you move to? Preliminary tests (for me) show a big improvement, but I have to take them on the road to test drive them.

I moved to a 2020 with the LED headlights.

In my 2018, I kept the Sv.4s in the high beam and fog light locations. I also thought they were OK in the low beam projector until I found myself unable to see for any distance when raining. They were good for cool factor but that's about it. The H9s I replaced them with performed much better in the low beam location.

I see. Yeah a dedicated LED housing will no doubt be better. I just went on a short drive in some light rain, but they still seem to be an improvement over the halogens. Especially considering projector housings are generally dimmer than reflector housings. However they produce a better cutoff and controlled beam as well as smooth out hotspots.

My work vehicle has LEDs also and there's no question it is much better than regular halogens, but they also came from the factory.

LEDs in a housing designed for them will have great performance. LEDs in a Halogen housing will not.

If you just want to have them to look cool, go for it. If you want better performance, look at non-LED options for the standard Tacoma halogen projector.

Again, as stated before it depends on the bulb. But you also have to ensure proper bulb orientation and alignment too. But yes, a dedicated LED housing will be best for LED. However, again, so far I've seen a big improvement over stock.
