Looking to get some sand miles in the Taco and was curious to know if the beach is driveable from Surfside beach to San Luis Pass? Looks like some fun open sand on the Galveston side of San Luis but was just curious about the other side and driving the beach instead of the Bluewater Highway.

    What?

Padre Island is several hours south of Surfside Beach and Galveston.

Much of Surfside is drivable, but high tide in some places can make pass very difficult. I don't know if how close you can come to the Pass from Surfside, though. I've never made that run, hence why I said it's a good question and there is only one way to find out. It would be a nice mini-adventure.

You can drive about 3/4 way to Galveston from surfside. Depending on tide some spots are sketchy but it’s a smooth ride. Just air down a little an have some recovery gear just in case. The dune sand will swallow your tires real quick like if you get in it.

Fully agreed. Grew up 20 min from Surfside and have made this entire “trip” many times.

You should be fine. Recovery gear is a good thing to have onboard. Surfside is highly strict on their dunes, so I do suggest NOT getting caught driving in/on the dunes.

You can enter Surfside just past the paid beach and run the beach all the way to a hotel about 2-3 miles from the San Luis pass bridge. You have to exit beach or turn around once you get to the hotel.

It’s a fun drive. Have made it at night and day and both were equally as good. When the sand is packed there are swoops which are fun to test out. And when it’s soft it gets sketchy.

I’ve made the same drive numerous times it’s always different an daytime watch for random beach goers getting in your way.
I remember was in love with your truck.

Thanks all for the useful info. I plan on bringin some tread plates and rigging gear so we'll see what happens. It'll be spring break for a few so I expect crowds to be present. Not looking for anything hardcore - just a cruise and sight-seeing. Saw some pics of a group at San Luis Pass in another thread though. Those guys looked like they had some fun.
