I know people always say: "If yOu SpeNd x,xxx$ oN a SupErChARgeR YoU DoNt cArE About MPG" and maybe most of the time they are right. But I want to save up for the thing yet still be at least relatively frugal day to day! I get so frustrated when people write off this question. If anyone here has gotten the magnuson SC please tell me If you have a mpg drop number. I would be SO happy. Been like pulling teeth to get an answer without smartelics.

Edit: Basic consensus is that if you drive conservatively you will lose maybe 1 ish, if you get heavy-footed (likely) you'll lose anywhere from 2-4 mpg. The biggest hit is the switch to Premium gas.

Welcome! It really doesn't affect mpgs if you stay out of boost, the supercharger only has 1/2hp parasitic drag when the bypass valve is open for the 2nd Gen charger. So it really depends on how heavy your right foot is and how often you are in boost. Boost is addicting, so you start to care less about mpgs and more about smiles per gallon. 1mpg loss is pretty common, but that is more about driving style change after the supercharger.

This. Boost is way addicting as is the whine. Easy to see 25-30% loss because... whine. Seriously.

Oh, welcome to TW and was not going to comment because Facebook. Social media is not Social or Media.

At least a 1 mpg loss. But individual driving habits will affect mpg’s lost the most. And if the mod bug bites in the way of altitude, armor, rubber and steel? You’ll be slamming that pedal to unlock the S/C even harder. I’m still sporting the perma-grin from the S/C 4 years after install. Highly recommended

THANK YOU. this is the kind of answer I was looking for. I can live with 2-3 mpg loss if it bypasses when easy driving. My plans for my taco are probably sacrilegious on this site but I intend for it to be a street truck. Not really much of an off roader.

You might check out the Xrunner and Street Truck sub forums on this site for help/ideas on what you are looking for. Keep your wheel/tire setup light also helps with mpg and performance. If you are looking to build a street truck mpgs with the SC shouldn't be much of a concern. Most mpg loss comes from heavier oversized tires, heavy armor and accessories for off road, and making the truck less aerodynamic with lift/racks/plate bumpers.

Pavement or dirt, the S/C perma-grin is the same! Have fun with it

Typically the supercharger would require premium fuel (at least with the default tune). That extra cost over regular fuel would typically dwarf any differences in mileage.

This is from life with a first gen Double cap limited and supercharger that was put on before delivery of the truck. I would say 2-5 MPG, but I didn’t have anything to compare it too. I would think around town, if your always into boost, the MPG lost would be greater. Cruising down the highway at 65-70 and any incline and I do mean any incline the supercharger would kick in. We would visit family in NM and it lived in boost in the mountains, but the power was great. Going over mountain passes, there was no hunting for a gear, just power. The supercharger was replaced by Toyota at around 56k miles, a bad bearing, but that was covered under the TRD warranty.
I think you would love it. I don’t plan to put one on, I don’t want to pay the extra cost in fuel type and even living in the mountains I don’t need the extra power right now.

So what hurt you more was the lift and tires rather than the SC. Good to know!

I didnt even realize that. Is that just recommended or required when supercharging? Stock it takes reg, I didnt think it'd jump all the way to premium, I thought maybe mid grade but thats good to know.

You consider the OV Tune turbo kit? The huge bump in TQ down low (vs the early results of the supercharger kit) would make for a better street truck IMO.

Turbo was my first choice actually but I found little to no taco turbo kits/support. Virtually no info i could find online.

    Premium fuel is required.

    Cost of entry, unfortunately.

Premium required or you'd get detonation and destroy the engine. The 2nd gen supercharger kit even included a fuel door sticker with big bold letters reminding you to put in premium.

And that's with the default tune. Hotter tunes (more power) will probably exist requiring 94 octane or 100+ octane race gas. To run those, you'd have to carry a can of octane booster if pump availability is limited in your area.
