It looks like we have more than one Supercharger owner posting on TW. So I have a question. Is there a stand-out best bang for the buck SC offering that stands out over the others?

I'm talking about daily driver reliability quality. If so what is a rough all-in cost and what truck prep has to be done before safe install.

I'm not looking to go extreme power here just to be able to stay out of the way in Austin traffic etc. What are the trade-offs in ownership?

If you have the 4.0 @mightytacoman makes cam gears that is most likely best bang for buck don't know much about the 4banger tacos though. You can never go wrong with opening up the airflow and a tune. Headers and Intake compliment superchargers well

You're looking at $6k and maybe more for a supercharger install. They are not cheap.

Magnuson after parts and labor is around 9k but general consensus is they are reliable but underwhelming

Magnuson is who made trd’s optional charger. Does it make the most power no but it is reliable and competitive in price. Hit up gadget at URD. They have the best price right now when you get the forum discount.

I opted for the Magnuson S/C with 2.8" pulley. Plan on breaking the S/C belt tensioner if you go with the underdrive pulley. I broke 2 of them already. I have a plan in the works to prevent that from happening again. It involves Tig welding billet aluminum to a Gates belt tensioner #38274. If you're lucky enough to retrieve the broken tensioner arm with pulley then just swap the pulley over because the Gates one is too big (thats what she said)

Only 5% but on that big of a purchase it adds up to a decent amount.

I'm getting ready to put a used TRD supercharger on my v6. Don't need or expect it to make v8 power, but a bit more pep for daily driving and offroad would be nice.
Many people have had the TRD / Magnuson installed for 100k+ miles with no problems.

for the i4 engines, I believe that URD makes a kit. I don't know much about it, but would expect if you simply install the base kit it would be plenty reliable and great for a daily.

I installed mine at 186k miles. Truck has 215k now and only issues I had was the belt tensioner.
