Supercharger HP increase while improving MPG?

These are Friday sort of questions. :anonymous:

How many HP can someone expect when adding a genuine TRD Supercharger to a 3.5 V6?
How much will it improve MPG?
Can it be installed in less than 5 minutes, with no tools?
Is this the correct one, or would one of those more expensive models be better?

I don’t believe there is a supercharger for our trucks yet. However, OVtune is putting together a turbo setup that is going to start at 400hp and will likely go to 500+hp depending on when it’s all dialed in. You may get better fuel economy cruising because the power to weight ratio, but usually your mpgs will go down because you will want to use the gas pedal more.

Superchargers typically add around 100+hp depending on the engine. Could be more, could be less

If you want some more felt power, (likely) better mpgs if you don’t drive like a teenager, but the OVTune for the ECU and 4.88 gears. All said and done and you will be at half the price of a turbo or supercharger

Get the more expensive one. Works way more better. Plus you only need two flat heads to install instead of having to use a 10mm wrench.

With one possible exception, a supercharger will not give you better gas mileage. In fact your gas mileage will be worse. With the 4.0 the supercharger and tune results in a 2 miles per gallon decrease. it was the combination of $6,500 for the supercharger and the loss of two miles per gallon that caused me not to get one. in hindsight, haven't put all the extra weight and larger tires on my vehicle, the supercharger might have benefited me in the long run. Currently I am lucky to get 16 miles per gallon on the highway, and about 13 in the city.
There is a point where the extra horsepower and torque can I actually improve miles per gallon when extra weight has been added.

The TRD superchargers for 1st and 2nd gens added roughly 60 hp/tq to the stock numbers, probably some slight variations between the gens.

The idea that a supercharger is going to help your MPGs is laughable...that shouldn't need any explanation. Plus you have to run minimum 91 octane so even if it had any positive effect on mpgs, it would be negated by the cost of premium fuel.

Add onto that the cost of added supercharger maintenance, fuel mods (larger fuel pump, 7th injector/larger injectors, methanol injection etc.) that are usually needed to keep the setup running smoothly...it's a deep rabbit hole on it's own.

In reality your MPGs suffer and you have to buy more expensive gas more often. But smiles per gallon increase greatly. Unless you worry alot about money...then I would not recommend.

Yes, that is the latest model.

    Install times vary

On average you can expect +87hp

But you'll need to run 97 octane biodiesel or better.

On average, you'll gain .2 mpg

Penile growth data seems to be hit or miss.

Make sure your continum transfuctioner is tuned properly as well. It is mysterious, yet powerful.

Yeah that tuning is hard to pin down. Bio diesel is where the true gains came from.

I've heard water/meth injection is a worthwhile venture but I prefer to smoke my methamphetamines and I don't drink water. Fish f**k in it.

Just use nitromethane to power the supercharger made of unobtanium. Make sure you use the latest vaporware software. You will get 300 hp gain and 45 mpg. It will only cost $7.52 to make the conversion.

Getting away from the shit talking for a second, in theory it should be possible to turn our engines from an Atkinson cycle to a Miller cycle via a positive displacement supercharger (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_cycle) and maybe see a mpg boost as well as power, but until someone does it who knows.

:boink: You will need the optional flames painted on the hood to get any noticeable improvement in HP.

You will gain zero horsepower as they don’t make a supercharger for this engine but if you contact Magnuson they will jerk you off for free about one because it’s the only thing they were ever good at!

If you do go with a supercharger, make sure you get your brake calipers powder coated the same color, this should double the hp gain.

If placed near the TRD sticker on the back it will cause the front end to lift on acceleration, much better to put it near the front to keep some weight on the front end. Gives more HP on the rear as closer to the back wheels. Only helps in front if in 4wd,
