Super White Paint Recall...Got Taken Up, and Died Just as Quickly as it Was Announced.

Almost a year now since their initial notice. Clearly their intent was just to falsely appease owners, or weed out as many owners who'll make a claim against this crappy paint!

Thanks for the tip, but I'll save myself the work. If I wait a little bit longer, all of my paint will fall off on its own.

 

I can not understand how toyota can not stand behind this issue, well they are I guess,, way behind it. I would be calling toyota 5 times a day to get this taking care. That is bull sh.....You guys have got to stick together to fight this !!!!

 

Can you please explain what you’re talking about? As an owner of a super white truck I’m familiar with the issue, and know Toyota added coverage to their super white paint program for Tacomas. But have no idea what you mean by false appeasement, so would be great if you shared whatever information you have.

 

Has anything changed with the Super White paint on the 4th gen?

I think the bigger question is if you can explain to US what you're talking about. 'False appeasement' means that back in November of 2023, Toyota FINALLY responded to the peeling Super-White paint outcry by informing owners of affected vehicles, that they would cover the costs of repainting those vehicles. Now I don't know about you, but going on a year later since this initial 'confession/letter' seems pretty long logistics wise, don't you think? So if by chance you got your peeling truck repainted under these Toyota provisions, perhaps you can share whatever information you have. As as far as I can tell, most, (if not all of us), are still waiting.

 

Toyota changed the name of the paint. I see some regular cabs around that still have what looks like all of their white paint. Those haven't been built since 2014.

 

My wifes 2018 rav 4 is super white. no issues, why just the trucks ?????? I have army green 2020 trd PRO no issues just the white I guess.

 

This thread seems to have a high concentration of harrumphs and Well-I-Nevers.

 

They changed the name to “Ice Cap” a couple of years ago. I don’t think anyone can say if the formulation is different, but the paint code is the same- 040.

 

Yeah I'ma just have a shop wrap that section and call it a day. I think I'll be able to retire before Toyota actually acts on this.

They're waiting it out - too many white tacos on the road, costs a lot to recall today. If they wait, they'll see more reach end of life. White tacos are used for the fleet trucks, so there's a TON out there getting driven bananaland miles that will just be dropped. Once that happens they'll finally get around to it.

I assume they'll jerk me around since I wheel my truck and it's got pinstripes, they're just going to say it was my fault and I abused it, so I'm going to take care of it myself ahead of time.

Haven't noticed any issues on the fenders on mine yet.

 

The title of this thread is misleading, at best. OP is ranting.

I get why you’re mad, Toyota has done this for all their other super white vehicles in the recall though(sans 2nd gen Tacoma’s). My cousin got her whole rav4 repainted.

Toyota will get to it. I’m not sure why people are so impatient. Unless ur trying to sell the vehicle. I plan to keep mine till the engines dies and perhaps longer than that so I don’t mind the wait at all. It’s not like it’s rusting(at least mine isn’t).

 

I have a 2015 so unfortunately I’m not covered.

I think what you’re trying to say is you have submitted a claim under the paint program and have not had a repaint scheduled? Or maybe you’re saying you know of others in that situation? If that’s correct, don’t you think it would have been helpful to state those details in your original post?

 

You will get a lot better MPGS with a lighter truck sans paint.

 

Questions 7 & 8 in the FAQ seem to be a bit contradicting, but I would visit the dealership. Then keep bothering them if you dont get anywhere.
