Not bad for $15 for a 5 quart jug.

200,000 miles on engine, 5,000 miles on oil that was tested.

Oil is oil and it's all pretty good now if it meets the specs. I guess I'd be concern with consistency with the stuff. I imagine Walmart shops around for low bidders so quality and composition probably changes from time to time.

Nice report! Haven’t used this brand due to Quaker state being on sale when I need oil for a couple cents cheaper

Actually Warren Distribution has produced SuperTech for many years....along with Amazon Basics, Kirkland (Costco), Meijer and several other house brands. Warren has been in the business for a very long time. Very reputable company.

It consistently scores high marks on Bobistheoilguy site.

I recently did an OC on a friend's '14 Sante Fe and went with Meijer's house brand (same thing as SuperTech). Used it on and off for many years on various vehicles. Never an issue.

Oh there will be some mods all right
I do believe that might be the first Blackstone oil report I've ever seen that didn't encourage running the oil longer. I'm so used to seeing "next time try running this amount of miles"

My oil story: remember some time back all the Castrol GTX commercials with the high revving engine getting hot and breaking down? Pretty effective ad.

About that time I was driving trucks OTR and went to a Castrol plant in Oakland, CA to pick up oil bound for Phoenix, AZ. While waiting for the load, I got in a conversation with the guys who worked there. They laughed as they told me the only difference between Castrol GTX and the cheap auto-parts store house brand was the bottles they put on the production line.

Never bought expensive oil again. Got 252,000 miles out of my last truck with zero engine issues, all with Super Tech.

A fella I went to engineering school with ended up working in a refinery. He told me with gasoline and oil almost all base stock is produced by just a few plants and the real difference lies in what the customer specifies for the final product. His recommendation was to pick a brand of oil, do a couple of analysis to make sure your engine is happy and then try to stick with it.

    Screen Shot 2020-11-01 at 5.39.22 AM.jpg

The real differences in oil is the additive packages. There has to be some difference otherwise every bottle oil would carry the exact same API & ILSAC ratings and the full suite of OEM approvals. My main concern is that viscosity (e.g. VI modifiers) might vary or changing additive packages containing agents that react with each other. My experience is that VW engines need an oil weight and spec that matches the manual. Our 2002 Jetta manuals calls for 5W40 VW 502.00 and not using the right oil increases consumption a lot. Japanese and US engines aren't as picky.

My original comment wasn't to imply that Super Tech was bad but just that I assumed it might be inconsistent. As @Plain Jane Taco points out that is not the case. Sounds like it's just as likely to be consistent as any other major brand.

If you're interested in some of the chemistry behind it, this is a good article:

There's a check box for "I am interested in extended OCIs" and I didn't check it. I do not drive much so my oil gets changed once a year at most. Also every 5k miles is a good time for me to get under there and check things.

Blackstone labs determined a while back that they could not find any measurable difference in engine wear between brands....conventional or synthetic, either.

We live in a time of very high quality oils across the board.

I’ve been saying this for a long time without doing the actual lab results :) thanks.

There’s always a few that want to call me fool for buying a $50,000 Tundra and putting in the “cheap oil” they say. Ok.

House brands do the job, save a few $ and allow me to change oil for the satisfaction and fun of it, sooner than recommended OCI too. Play the cards right with rebates and sales and an oil change can cost $15-30
Tacoma or Tundra. May as well spend a few extra dollars for the Toyota filter tho because they are close to price if you shop them right also.

Wall Mart Super tech synthetic and Toyota oil filters for me. I only have 140k miles on my truck, but I hope that it last for years, I change my oil between 7500 and 10,000 miles.

On the bottom of the bottle, there is usually a mold stamping mark that indicates where the oil was manufactured. Warren's products will have a WPP on the bottle bottom. IIRC Mobile products have a funny looking G on the bottom. Next time you are at a Walmart look for common mold stampings on the bottom of the bottles.

I will admit I have avoided the very cheapest brands like supertech, but I usually use whatever brand of oil is on sale whether it be mobil, Pennzoil, Valvoline etc. Always use a good filter though.
