Which tire would you choose?

  1. SSR - 285/75/16, 68Lbs, actual size is 33.9 X 11.4

  2. TRXUS MT - 285/75/16, 62Lbs, 32.7 X 11.2

The local club I hang with are Mudders - We don't have much in the way of rock crawling. Just dirt trails with deep trenches, and deep thick mud.

That said, I am pretty set on getting a extra set of wheels and tires to swap out for mud days. I have been looking at Interco Super Swampers in 285/75/16. I know I will need a lift to fit those, but would prefer to avoid the Cab Mount Chop and trimming if possible.

The Interco website, www.intercotire.com it lists all the tire specs. Here are the two options I like:

    SSR - 285/75/16, 68Lbs, actual size is 33.9 X 11.4
    TRXUS MT - 285/75/16, 62Lbs, actual size is 32.7 X 11.2

I'm leaning toward the SSR, but concerned about the larger size. If you know of a better mud tire, please give me a shout.

Which would you choose and why?
Will 4.5 backspacing in a 16 X 8 wheel be sufficient to avoid rubbing?
I have seen the CMC thread - Does anyone have a "How To" link for the fender trimming?

    Thanks for the help!

I have considered trying the LTB 34x10.5x16, actually 33.6" with a 3" lift. Very close in size to a 255 85 16 only a little wider, 0.2 taller. Trimming would most likely be required. I ended buying a used set (80% remaining) of 255 85 R16 KM2.

    LT265/70R16 Super Swamper SSR-31R ( stock tire size )
Because I need a looow center of gravity to make it up and down my mountain driveway,
so the truck does not flip over ( very steep driveway )

I would go with 3.5 bs because those outer lugs might rub the frame.

If somebody givin away35x10 boggers ill cut! I considered 33 10 boggers but ended with sx2 swampers. I race mud drags in summer with them. I run 255 85 km2 daily drivers summer, just other plain all season tires in winter. (I thought the km2 SUCKED in the snow we get here)

So, as OP, here a quick update -

I ended up going a completely different way. There was such a good deal from Discount Tire Direct that I bought the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R in 285/75/16, and some new wheels with 4.5 BS. Since I live in Ecuador, I just received them all today. Now I need to get them mounted and balanced, and then see how they fit. I do not have a lift yet, but hoping our TW group buy will match up with my plans, otherwise time to bite the bullet.
