I bought them and had them put on in early Dec 2017 and now (7/2019) with only 30k miles, they are almost smooth. I have my truck regularly aligned with Firestone's lifetime alignment. I bought them from Costco and when I went to have them installed, the Michelin M/S2's were used up with maybe 10k miles left on the 70k mile warranty, so they gave me back ~$200.

I looked on Costco's site and didn't see the Michelin M/S2's in 265/70/R17, so what is everybody using? Anyone else experience short life on the KO2's. And yes, I asked Costco to make it right, they said that these are not meant for commuting and wouldn't do anything.

Thoughts? Good alternative? I'm planning to go back to Michelin or at least something with a warranty. Thanks for reading

Don't feel bad, I remember my first set of training wheels too. ;)

Just kidding. Really though, don't feel bad. I only got about 33K out of mine at the time. Never again.

I’ve ran both the KO and KO2’s. The KO2’s are a much better tire overall, but any “aggressive” all terrain isn’t going to last as long as your standard street tire. 30k miles is kinda low for the KO2’s though. Most people will get at least get 40-50k out of them before needing replacement. The Nitto Ridge Grappler is a relatively new tire that has that aggressive mud terrain sidewall with all terrain tread. I have the Nitto’s on my Jeep and I love them!

I have 33k miles on mine and lots of tread life left. It is my DD and I off-road regularly.
If you have had them rotated every 5k I would expect Costco to work with you but a previous experience with them and a set of tires that underperformed tells me otherwise. I had to speak to the manager to get anywhere and also had to demand that they document the regular rotation/actual mileage Everytime.

Maybe worth mentioning my KO2s are load rates E... perhaps they have a harder compound...

I loved my previous sets of KO2s traction wise on the trail, but they chunk up very easily and both my previous sets lasted about 25k miles before I would replace them. They still had usable tread life on the street but were losing their effectiveness offroad.

I switched to Cooper STMaxx last time and they hold up a lot better to abuse IMO

I had 50k miles on mine before I got new tires and they still have a good amount of tread left.

Zero issues with my KO2s, on my second set and would buy them again.

Somewhere around 36 psi, size is 265/70/R17

Never again is right! My truck has 262K miles and I put them all on it. Before I knew better, I let someone at Wheel Works put on some cheap ones, but after that I've had Michelin M/S2's. First P265/70/R17's and then LT265/17/R17's. My friend told me he got around 100K miles on his KO's (1st gen) on his Jeep Wrangler, but he's probably full of it.

Yeah, I spoke with someone who "talked to the manager", but I will do it in person before I have the new ones put on. I'm drving on SC Mountain roads, which are in chitty shape, so that's part of it.

Dont know what to tell you...
I feel the same way about Michelins that you feel about BFGs; probably worse. Michelin MS2s have a mileage warranty, BFG KO2s don't and I drank the Michelin kool-aid twice.
I had 2 sets of MS2s on my '07; each only lasted 30-35K. Performance-wise, I'd say the Michelins were only marginally better on the street and in inclimate weather. I just don't get it...

That said, I'm looking for something else in my next set. I want a severe-rated all-terrain with a 'reverse hybrid' tread pattern(street/all terrain) and lot of sipes. Cooper AT34S seems to be leading so far. I just can't decide between a euro-metric or LT.

wow, never heard that about Michelins. Maybe I should have mentioned that my truck is a 6spd and I'm hammering down on these mtn. roads, but the Michelins lasted longer. Yeah, I just need a warranty incase. I'm going to check out the Cooper's, but I like the Costco deals and services.

Know what’s interesting about BF Goodrich? They’re a Michelin brand.

I’ve had several sets of KO’s and now KO2’s and they’ve lasted 50k-60k and my ex was pushing 70k on the set on her Tundra.

Random thought. Based on experience actually. ;)

Tires loose grip with age, not just wear. 3-5 years and they are done in terms of grip from the compound. Which is a very important thing on a street tire, more so than the tread pattern in most cases.

So the idea is to buy a tire you will wear out mileage wise in 3-5 years, because the compound is about done then anyway.

If a tire is a high mile rating, it's a hard compound, and starts life with a low compound based grip. So again, not the best for a normal street tire, more appropriate for a high mile long hauler on pavement.

I understand everyone wants an 'aggressive look' and many want something that's offroad awesome for the 10% of their miles they are off road.

Every choice of feature is a compromise of some other feature.

Choose wisely for how you really use the vehicle.

What Costco says makes no sense. Are the tires warrantied or not? If not you are out of luck. If they are tell Costco to show you where it says the warranty doesn’t apply to commute driving. How do they define commuter driving. Makes no sense.

Interesting. I have about 25k on mine and they have over 60% tread still I’d say. I should get 40k out of them easily, won’t be surprised if they make it to 60k. Proper inflation is key throughout the temperature changes during the year.

I would look at the Falken Wildpeak AT/3 if you really want to change though. Great feedback on them and they’re cheaper than the KO2’s.
