Hey guys, I recently replaced my clutch in June (@ 3500-4k miles ago) and I've been having this weird squeaking off and on. Doesn't always do this. But when sitting at idle after coming home from work there is a high pitched mouse squeak type noise that comes from the tranny area. When I barely touch the clutch pedal it goes away, and if I get under the truck and put my finger on the clutch fork or slave cylinder rod with light pressure the noise goes away.

Looks like it's squeaking between the clutch fork socket and slave cylinder rod, but already tried to grease it and no dice.

I replaced the clutch, pilot bearing and throw out bearing with the Aisin kit. It's got a brand new koyo TOB on there so I really don't think it could be the TOB, though it sounds similar. Any ideas? I really do not want to have to take that tranny out again, it was such a pain with the welded crossmember.

    Thanks!

Same thing happened to me. '02 3RZ 4x4. Changed the original clutch at 160k/mi using all Toyota parts. Toyota disc, pressure plate, t/o bearing. After install, at idle with foot off the clutch pedal a harsh steel on steel squeal sound. The slightest touch of the pedal and it would stop (like you said I could touch the fork with my finger and it would stop). Anything above idle and it would stop.

Tired adjusting the pedal and ultimately pulling the tranny again. I had a local Toyota dealer mechanic come over and inspect everything. There was no sign of wear on anything that you would expect from a sound like this. He pulled it all apart, re-alined the disc, inspected the t/o bearing, flywheel, fork and we put it all back together. SAME THING!

After driving for a week or two with no change and fiddling around with pedal adjustment and crawling around under the running truck trying to imagine what was causing the sound I decided to pull the tranny again. This time at the dealership where my buddy did all the work. He got all the Toyota parts warrantied (clutch, pressure place and t/o bearing), turned the flywheel and spent extra time assembling it all back together. It still fucking did it!

After driving the truck like I didn't give a shit after about 2 weeks it just went away. Dunno. Mystery. That was 40k/miles ago. Short story long, I got nothing for you and it has bothered me and the Toyota mechanic since. Everything works perfect but I gotta think that has happened to others. Anyone?

I am having the same issue. Looking for direction after reading a lot of posts.

Could it be a change in the input shaft diameter cause by wear that allows a slight bit of space for the pilot bearing, input shaft bearing or TOB? I have heard of people pulling back the clutch fork and greasing the shaft around the TOB which helped fix the issue. I am thinking of doing this myself, being careful to over grease.

Well I did a bit of research and decided to pull back the fork and gease the main pivot ball. I tried a little dab of wheel bearing grease, and also 3 small shots of white lithium grease. Seems to have fixed it, as it squeaked at idle before I greased it, and when I started it again it was good. Will tell for sure tomorrow when I drive it but I think that's it.

I know you don't want a crap ton of grease in there but I made sure there was plenty in there. It's on the back side of the fork anyway so overspray wouldn't hit the clutch. If any drips which it shouldn't (not much anyway) it will hit the bottom and be away from the clutch. I'm not too worried. Just really hoping this fixed it, and I am confident it will.

    Hope this helps!

@BarnBoy Hope it is fixed... Keep us posted.

Does anyone think there is an issue if you push the fork back and grease around the shaft near the TOB?

Yup drove 20 or 30 miles today and clutch is mint. Super smooth and no squeaks.

I don't think there's an issue, just make sure you check that you didn't push fluid out if the clutch master cyl. It didn't on mine and it was full so you'll be good.

It's inside the truck. My 97 did that for years put a clutch in it at 206K sold it with 300+K never bothered me enough to take the pedal assembly apart to fix it.

Nope, it's actually outside the truck. The clutch fork jiggles around and when low on grease either squeaks, creaks, or both. Not saying the inside pedal doesn't get squeaky, but that's not the issue with mine or these other guys.
