My truck is a 2020 limited with sunroof. i have been using the sunroof every morning on my commute. Yesterday, when I closed the sunroof, I heard an "acorn being crushed" kinda sound. i looked inside and all around the sunroof track for some blockage. There was none.

Today, I tried again to open and close the sunroof. Now the sunroof goes halfway and immediately goes back to open position.

I can catch the sunroof halfway and assist the sunroof to close.

Have any ideas on what could be broke? I removed the upper console to check the motor and belt. Seems to be moving without issue.

The truck just went over 36,000 miles - go figure!

Give this a shot. Read it thoroughly, including the notices, before you do anything.

I've had a plastic window actuator gear self-destruct make a sound like that before

Update...sunroof again stops midway. Brought to local dealership. They replaced the sunroof ECU. Did not help. They troubleshot for 4 hours before telling me they do not know what is wrong. They said they have been talking with Toyota and will probably have to swap out the sunroof track. I am still in awaiting maintenance mode...

The lack of sunroof was one of my biggest factors for choosing an SR5. Every one I've ever owned has broken, clogged, jammed, etc especially living in Oregon

I personally have never had issues with them, but I too avoid them. That said, I the few that I have known with issues, have been complete cluster F's.

OP it is good they are at least trying to handle it.

Yes, I am starting to think I am just going to have an unusable operating window in my truck for now on.

Mine did that once. I did the reset a few times and finally got it to go back. I hate sunroofs and never use them for that reason.

Agree, never should have a hole in a perfectly good roof.

Brought vehicle back to Toyota so they could troubleshoot again my sunroof problem. this time i was told they did another Toyota initialization that was different from before. This is the documentation from Toyota. Funny,I have yet to try it. Going to wait a few days to see if really fixed...I am thinking
