Hey everyone, my sunroof stopped working this summer and I’m ready to fix it. It still vents and closes just fine. But when I push the button to open it all the way, it opens maybe a half inch before completely stopping. Any idea how to fix this issue??
    It’s a 2009 Tacoma

I tried to upload a video so you could see what exactly it’s doing but it won’t let me for some reason... so if you need more info feel free to ask

    thanks in advance!

Unfortunately Tacomas of that year did not come with sunroofs, so whatever you have was an add on at some point. So you probably won't get a whole lot of first hand experience on a tacoma specific setup.

I would assume something is caught in the track. To access a sunroof you'll have to pull the headliner and hopefully it would be obvious from there. While your at it I would recommend clearing out the drains as they have a habit of clogging and leaking. At least all cars I've owned with sunroofs have. Good luck!

Sunroofs are nothing but trouble. Did you check the fuses?

You will need to re-initialize it, but we need to know what brand it is to figure out how to do that.

Honestly I've never seen a 2nd gen with a sunroof.

Ok I’ll go out to take a picture of the brand or model number in just a bit.

this is a picture of it closed, and one of it opened as far as it will go right now.

    Same crap everyone else got
My dad has one on his 06. He bought the truck new and it was a dealer add by a different company I believe. He's never had an issue with it and and it still is working flawlessly to this day 270k miles later.

My wife's Durango does this at times. As stated above, there's a proceedure to initialize (reset) it, but that proceedure varies by manufacturer. Yours may require a tinfoil hat....

    Thank you everyone.
So I followed the re- initializing steps mojojojo78 posted ( vent all the way and then hold the vent button down again for 5 secs ) and now it doesn’t want to close lol. It stays in the vent position. When I hit or hold down close now, it closes and opens back to the vent position 3 times before stopping at the vented position. Still won’t open. I may have to take it in..? Unless there might be another manual or instruction to reset all operating positions?
