    I call BS.

Duratracs come fully siped....ask me how I know

    um....he didn't...it's BS. See above

Did they do them by hand or use a machine? I do not like the machine sipes

I will be doing mine very soon. Just picked them up last night.

This isn't motor cross and siping tires does not kill them unless you do them wrong or run on small/medium rocks 24/7.

Don't have to be a dick man. I personally saw them with my own eyes. Siped way above and beyond what comes stock. Those sipes are not even all the way through the lugs. It is very good for an AT, but nothing like a tire siped for true winter weather. Jeeze what is it with dicks today who, without any knowledge what so ever about a subject think they know better than me. i wouldn't make up him having his tires siped just for fun, sheesh.

Again, with my own eyes, personally. No idea where he had it done or how it was done. I imagine it was machine siped at a tire shop like I did to my KM2s.

They have different levels of snow rating now? I thought it was just snowflake symbol or no snowflake symbol.

If you're not talking off road in deep snow the best snow/ice tire will be a snow/ice tire. A true snow/ice tire. No all-terrain will substitute, including the holy sent from heaven BFG AT or Duratrac.

I agree with you dude. People just need to be a little more respectful. And i have BFG AT's that are pretty worn and let me tell you they BLOW in snow. Not so much road but in 5 inches of snow ill get stuck. I have a topper, with a rack, as well as ~320 pounds of salt in the back and i get stuck in stuff I shouldnt. My friends jeep does circles around me in snow. I pulled off the road in like maybe 4 inches of snow and he had to pull me out. CANT wait for new tires.

Every single tread block is siped from the factory and while they do not go through the entire lug they stop about 1/8" away from the end (prevents chunking). The factory sipes are also superior to aftermarket machine sipeing due to their directional placement, curved design, and depth.

The factory sipes are not all horizontal so if he had them mechanically siped his tread would be criss crossed with sipes and I would imagine his tires are going to chunk like crazy and wear out fast.

I was only calling you out because the risks in sipeing a deeply pre siped tire would outweigh any benefits IMO, but if your friend wanted it done I hope he is happy with it.

If the factory sipes were not deep I would understand doing it, but they are very deep. Ive seen these tires on trucks at 50k and their sipeing still looked deeper then the distance from the tread to the surface of the tire.

Respect is earned. So much misinformation gets slung around the web that when someone says their "friend" siped fully siped tires it's hard to believe, but then again people do crazy stuff.

It is not my tire, no idea how it is holding up. All I know is he had it machine siped, at a tire shop, and he says it is as good as pretty much any winter tire he has used. That and I've seen the tires myself.

Not many people would make up stories that do not make them look good for no reason at all. A friend who had tires siped that already have some minimal siping (and let's be honest, duratracs are siped well for an AT, but have shit all for siping compared to a winter tire) is not exactly a fishing tale that makes me look like a hero.

You should try to give people a little benefit of the doubt, or if you cannot do that, just don't be an asshole about it. I'll shoot him a message on facebook and see if he will send a pic, and hopefully with some proof you will be a bit less dickly to the next guy saying something that you don't quite believe.

That sucks man. My siped KM2 has been doing very well in the snow. Not too long ago I made it to the top of a very snow covered mountain with my tall-n-skinny KM2s that my buddy in a big dodge diesel and 35" winter geolanders on could not quite scale. I was pretty proud of the ole trucky that day!

Sorry my fault, I meant snow performance, not snow rating.

I have used studded Nokians for the past 7 years in winters up here in Vermont. They are the best winters I have ever used.
They have a 31x10.5x15, listed under tire sizes.
In my experience, a narrower tires does better on pavement, as it slices thru the slush to the surface, while a wider tire does better off road in the snow, allowing you not to sink as far. I have run them on my Corolla and 4runner with great success. Have yet to buy a set for my Tacoma as they are a bit pricey.

I've been quite happy with the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1s as a dedicated winter set. They do well on the ice, good control, and do surprisingly well in deep snow.

    .
I have a set of Goodyear Wrangler M+S tires, I've had them for oh probably 40k, still got lot's of life in them, never driven them in snow BUT, I have abused them in every other way possible, sand, mud, wheeling, heavy rain at freeway speeds, never once did they give me cause for concern, very grippy, tough tires, probably less expensive than the Duras
