I am in the process of getting permits to build another garage to store my Taco.
Hailstorms are a real concern here on the Florida panhandle. Wondering if any of Y’all have found a cover that will yield decent protection from hail.
PS Not interested in that “bubble” looking one but hope someone has a multilayered one that they trust. It gets pretty windy here so straps are a preferred option. Searching the Internet shows plenty of options but I’d be more comfortable buying something that a member can recommend.
    Thanks,
    Chris
PS The Harley took my current garage space figured the truck was more weather resistant.

There are two problems with any kind of vehicle cover:

    1. Rubbing / abrading the paint. This is unavoidable in any kind of windy conditions.
    2. Trapping of condensation and moisture under the cover.

My experience is that, on the whole, you are better off without them. Weigh the chance of hail versus the certainty of the above damage.

nothing but, inside storage will protect you from real hail. with that said, covers with liners are a nice option for outside storage when needed. we have 4 of the www.carcovers.com platinum covers and they work very well. I see they now offer an inflatable "hail protection cover" but, know nothing about it. using a few extra clamps, and bungees, you can get the cover to sit pretty tight on the vehicle. just remember, never put the cover on a dirty vehicle, or drop the cover on the ground, liner down. this search was for their tacoma double cab, with short bed: https://www.carcovers.com/covers/truck/toyota/tacoma/2019/double-cab-short-bed-5-ft.html

Look at Diamondback covers. Very durable and secure. Diamondback Outlet for a better price or look thru Want to Sell Ads on Tacoma World.

As stated above, there is some upkeep to having a vehicle with a cover. You can't put a cover on a wet vehicle or a dirty vehicle. The dirt acts like sandpaper. If you don't drive it often, every week you should take ths cover off , wash and wax and then put the cover back on. I live in SW Ga. and the heat will most likely decrease the longivity of any cover you buy.

Thanks all for your replies. I just want emergency protection from large hailstones. Not an ideal option but necessary until garage is finished. Clean truck before covering is a no brainer. That said scratches happen if you off road. I just don’t want a peened roof or hood or broken glass.

If you lived out in BFE somewhere that is hours from a Dealership then you’ll understand why your “insurance, LOL” comment is not helpful or applicable. I will have a garage shortly and until then I intend to protect my investment. I got it in July of 2022 and just paid it off .

I had my cover ready for hail, put it on and off. Then the pandemic hit and I started leaving it on. Why not. Well, that's when the squirrels had a party, eating my wiring like hors-derves. Now its no cover full time, and squirrels 8, me 0 but I'm getting closer to putting one in the "W" column!!

I live in a hail prone area as well. Bought a multi layer cover. Only put it on when either the forecast or my eyes say there is a big storm on the way. Take it off after storm passes. Works well that way so far.

What about a temporary popup type garage? Help protect from hail without rubbing on the paint.

I use a cheap Amazon cover, but I throw moving blankets over the truck first, then put the cover over those. Its held up to 5-6 hail storms in the past 5 years.

No garage at cabin in U.P. I have moving blankets stored in porch, in case they call for bad weather/hail.
