Is a 10” alpine subwoofer enough to feel the bass on my chest? I have a 2012 regular cab.

How about the kicker hideaway under the seat?

Not sure, I’ve got my 10 behind the passenger seat and amp under the seat but I’ve been considering going to 2 10s just because it can’t ever be too loud. Lol

On my 87 I built a bandpass box and put it under the bed, ported up into the floor, it hit really well. Single 10". I had to reroute the exhaust. I covered the box with speaker box carpet and poured fiberglass resin all over it. I wheeled that truck hard and all kinds of stuff hit that box but it never cracked or anything. It was heavy and required strong mounts.

That’s some goals there! I’m doing my box now I’m fiberglass but it’s a process.

Any particular reason? Sorry I’m debating on getting kicker 10” comp or alpine 10” type S

I've had really good luck with Kicker L7's. Out of the two choices you presented I'd definitely go with the Alpine as it has better materials and uses a smaller box. The Alpine also has better reviews than the Kicker.

short answer... no. If you are buying a nice 10" sub that can handle 1000 watts maybe.

Now you will feel the vibrations from everything on your body, like the seat vibrating and such, but trucks can be a challenge to get a lot of bass. The cabin is much smaller and so is your enclosure, you are going to want a ported enclosure to get the big deep bass but your single cab is not going to agree with you much. Finding a sub that will work with the airspace of the small box, plus have room for a port.

I believe your best bet would be to get a single sub (i would go with a 12") ported enclosure that takes the entire back wall. These are big enclosures, but they give you enough airspace for the sub and your port.

I personally have 2 SD3 10s in sealed boxes behind my seats. They run 600w RMS each and they bump! But this is a sound quality setup and the subs are designed for sealed enclosures with small amounts of airspace.

I used to hear this damn near everyday: "I want my system to be loud enough to not hear the road noise and I want it to sound clear with good bass response."

I install a few hundred watt system.

    "It's just not loud enough."

Describing volume of sound is an impossibility to the uninformed because it involves opinion instead of fact. If owners knew how loud specific decibels were it would be a possibility but they never do.

So when I read "I want to feel it in my chest" it makes me lmao because what you feel and what I feel are going to be at completely different sound levels unless it's a multi-thousand watt system that everyone will feel in their chest, including the people on the sidewalk.

A sound system is only limited by its installer and the equipment used but is never limited by the vehicle's design or size. A standard cab pickup is no exception.

A standard cab pickup is a double edged sword on sound systems. The cab is small so there's less volume to fill so it's easier to fill however bass takes actual distance to fully develop which is where a standard cab pickup falls short (ALL passenger vehicles fall short). In a vehicle the more the bass sound waves bounce around prior to reaching the listener's ears the better the bass will sound because that bouncing/reflection of sound waves creates distance of travel for the sound wave to fully develop.

A 12" woofer will play a deeper bass note than a 10" woofer if all things remain equal. The deeper the bass note being correctly played the less accurate upper bass and mid bass will be with all things remaining equal. It's a direct trade off. That's why my first question to owners was always "what kind of music do you listen to?" A young kid that listens to rap wants the people on the street to hear the biggest boom possible. Death metal listeners don't give a f___ about distortion because that's already heavily in their music - even though they may claim they do care.

I used to get a kick out of dealing with customers. Complaining of quality of sound while listening to the FM radio, or while listening to death metal, and one guy actually complained his AM radio didn't sound good enough. In vehicles like the 2nd gen Tacoma where the stereo isn't a standard single DIN or double DIN size the trend is always the same: install great components and keep it all hooked up to a completely sh!t stereo using adapters and other bandaids that only adversely affect the sound. Sure it might sound great but it could sound a lot better with a quality aftermarket head unit.

Kicker has been around for a long time and have built a name for themselves for a reason! I would go with a kicker sub over an alpine any day!

    Good info here!

My recommendation to you would be to go to a local taco meetup and ask who has subs and ask for a demo. From there you can get an idea of where to start.

Here is a video of my subs shaking my mirror...

I like kicker for 16 year olds that want a system. For $300 you can get system you can hear a block away.

I listen to a lot of pop music and dubstep. A former friend of mine had two fifteens, a great amp, and a nice HU. I’m certainly not expecting the same kind of bass with a 10” subwoofer. So if I can’t feel it in my chest that’s okay. I really appreciate your response

Just put a pair of sd4 10's in my double cab and they get loud for such small sealed enclosures. Coming from a pair of x10 sundowns ported with 4000 watts I didn't expect much but was surprised

Also, if my statement made you laugh this might as well.. I’m considering boss riot 1100W amp. A good friend of mine has two 12’s in his Sierra powered by that same amp... what are your thoughts on the boss riot though. Be brutal if you have to.
