I'm finally adding a quality HU to my 2013 AC and losing the anemic stock system. I'd like to add a sub to the cab as well, without losing the seating and general usable space. I've seen where people have built pretty elaborate enclosures that take up a lot of space, or removed the seating. I'd like to avoid that.

Looking for good low end but don't need massive thump.

    What's out there??

Tons of options, limited only by your budget and imagination/inspiration.

Its just me and the dog so I have an Alpine S 12", it likes a small sealed box, behind the pass seat.

I had 2 12s at one point but found I use the area behind the drivers seat and so does dawg (theres a dog bed + pad + comforter permanently mounted back there on the folded down back seat platform. Never spoil your huntin dog haha!)

So the last time I pulled the 2nd 12 I left it out.

    Tons of BOOM
    or not
Depends on how you tune it and what you want.
Fills in the lower end and hits nicely!

You lose access to any seating on the pass side but like I said no one sits back there anyway, the seats are permanently folded down and theres still plenty of room.

I have a hang off the back of the seat, gun rack storage area on each side.
Fire extinguisher, tp, duct tape in the back of the front pass seat holder straps, dog water bottles under the back pass seat.

    Low end, inexpensive install...
    Works for me
Probably maybe not what your looking for but one option.

Looking forward to seeing some custom installs/enclosures.

Have you seen the rear door replacement panels?
    I think they handle 8s or 10s?
Dont lose any seating back there that way...

It may be just me but when I ride in trucks with no sub....well, anemic is a good way to word it.

    Gotta have sub!!!

I also have a sub bypass button to turn it off when dog rides up front.
Think of the kids sensitive ears too.
When I went to the S from the other brand I had my ears itched for a week because of the frequency and volume...thought I had already permanently damaged my hearing but I guess there was some left.

Havent had that happen since the satriani concert.

    Good stuff. thanks

Just like you, the dog gets top priority in the back. Less Meat than your retriever. 52# Aussie. The deck I have for him is at the same height as the center console. So below that height remains usable. If I could make an enclosure that would fit under there and pop out on the rare occasion I wanted to use the space, that would be fine.

The 2.5 gen AC's still have the cutout for a 6" in the door metal, but it's concealed by the interior paneling. They didn't come with speakers there. I planned to intall a pair. You just need to cut out for whatever speaker. That's an option, but not optimal for that SUB bass sound.

    Cool dog!
    Love the setup.

    Oh yeah man thatd work.
You could probably stuff a 12 under there on each side and still have room for an 8 in the middle.

I just learned of the lack of rear door speakers in the newer ac's definately start there they make a huge difference!

6 1/2s fit in my 05 with speaker adapters and check out the specs on the alpine s 12, it likes a small, sealed enclosure and doesnt have to be ported depending on what you listen to and what kind of boom you want.

Easy to remove the 12 box when we go duck/goose/buck hunting and I have a passenger and his gear.

Trust me, I'm pretty far down that wormhole!!!

I know there's LOTS out there, and could probably come up with a custom box approach that would leave my current setup pretty much alone, but the lazy part of me is hoping somebody here came up with a creative solution they want to share, or a linc to an off the shelf solution.

Here's the thing, I'm all about quality not quantity. I get loud but I'm not trying to rattle anybodies windows or soundstage a rave with my doors open. I want Warren's tone and Zigaboo's beats to hit as intended, is all. Small cab, oughta be pretty easy to make a decent impact without getting too crazy.

I'll just quote my for sale ad :D I made my own after being unhappy with the options (lack of) on the market. I wanted to keep all 4 seats as functional as possible since, at the time, it was my daily driver and a few times per month had to haul bodies back there. I ended up with a box that allowed the front seats to slide and recline, both at the same time, without interference. Rear seat passengers have a nice center console to rest their
arm on. I started with the down firing enclosure that held an 8" Kicker square sub. That lasted a couple years before blowing, so I built a new one with a side-facing 10" sub and put a Sundown Audio 10". A few years later and I just blew out the Sundown last weekend. A new JL 10" is on the way set to be delivered later this week.

    @dumontrider DUDE!

Actually that would work as I could have this replace the center support posts of the dog deck. Even more stable. And I could mount the amp in the rear most part....

You're not close enough for me to grab this so I assume you'll allow me to rip off your creativity?

    Nice speaker build dumontrider!

Yeah build your own if you cant find anything.

Id vote for avoid the "powered" otc premade subs, have not had good luck with those.
Do it right and spec out your box/speaker with a dedicated mono amp.

    I feel ya
Not into setting car alarms off and waking the neighbors altho the s will do it.

Im into concert quality volume w/out distortion myself but cant afford the quality of gear my audiophile buddys are into.

    20200217_095547.jpg

    4ohm or 2ohm makes a difference too...
Stuff the box or dont stuff the box.

Play around with it once you get it set up and dial in the hit/boom you like.

Like anything else get the best gear you can afford and if you cant find it on the market custom build it yourself.

This is like the door panels I was thinking of.
Could never afford them but always wanted to add a couple of 8s/10s to fill in the botom end.
    Screenshot_20200217-093622_Chrome.jpg

There are q-forms and q logic kick panels too.

Id kick you my other 12 box after measuring and seeing if it would fit under there but shipping...you could probably go down to best buy and get two for what itd cost to ship it across the street.

@jungleman thanks man, but the more I think about it the more I think @dumontrider set me down the path...

I've got a pair of 6 1/2" coax to go in the rear suicide doors. I can run a single amp to run those and the sub, from inside this box. The wires from the doors only have to go to the center rear....

I can have a centered downward facing sub, which is optimal. An 8" isn't huge, but again, if powered appropriately, I bet it'll do.

you're sayin' dual 4 ohm coils is preferable right?

to anyone reading this...feel free to chime in with product suggestions...sub and amps.

Im running the dual 4 yes
Enough boom for me and tuned like it is itll do a 3hour road trip at max volume. without trippin the amp

Loved 2ohm with 2 12s but this one sub sounds better than the 2 other 12s I had.

Just make sure your amp is 2ohm stable.

I just wish there was a way to mount REAL speakers in the headliner in place of the transistor radio tins they put up there....

    8" is better than nothing
You will hear a difference in the low end.
