hey i’m new to the community and just still learning a bunch of stuff. I was wondering if anyone knew if these subs would fit behind my rear seats if i took out the plastic storage area behind them. Thanks

I can't say for certain, bc I'm new to the audio world and trying to research options for 3rd gen audio, but I THINK that 2nd gen and 3rd gens require differently designed boxes to fit behind the rear seat.

Yeah they do require differently designed boxes, but from what i’ve been researching and stuff you don’t need to remove the plastic storage area and it just fits right in for the 2nd gen tacomas. That’s why i’m wondering if i were to remove the storage behind the seats if i would be able to fit it back there.

I think it has more to do with the design of the cab wall, but again, I don't have experience with this box so I'm purely guessing.

I had 2 JL Audio TW3 10” subs behind the rear seats. (JL Audio sealed wedge boxes). Had to cut out some of the plastic out to get a proper fit. A little pricey but sounded amazing.

I’m partial to the stock JBL system. They pop up in the BST section sometimes.

Just eyeballing the pictures, there's no way either boxes will fit without removing the plastic storage bins.

Unless it's significantly discounted and a complete set, the non JBL can be upgraded to sound much better for a reasonable cost. I know mine sounds nicer than my co-worker's JBL in his Tacoma.

I'm actually waiting for my new sound system to be delivered from Crutchfield this afternoon! I'm swapping out my stock JBL with a new HU for the Sony AX7000 and all speakers and adding a new amp, all kicker. I opted for the kicker hideaway 10" sub to fit under one of my front seats. I've only heard great things for the price of it and convenience of not needing a sub box and its powered. I'd imagine you could easily pair up 2 of these.

While you've got the door panels off, do yourself a favor and add some sound deadening. A little goes a long way!

Yes! I actually bought some Amazon basics deadening as an afterthought for the doors.

I did a Rockford amp behind the head unit a 400 watt 4 channel, a Rockford amp/box/ 8 inch sub combo which fits perfectly behind the rear pass seat and Rockford speakers up front and changed the rear speakers to a 6x9 as its a better speaker. It sounds freaking amazing, super clear and just the right amount of crisp punch for the money I have invested. A nice good quality sub and amp will hit pretty hard when coupled with other upgrades.

Check out Taco Tumes. I got 1 12 Alpine and my truck shakes. I have a dedicated Alpine amp driving the 12.

Thinking about doing this. Can you send a link to the amp and sub you bought? Anything else i should know? Would you say the sound quality + bass is overall pretty good?

I just changed all my doors and dash speakers with kickers and did the sound deadening and speed rings . And it sounds so much better even with the stock head unit. I do have a kenwood that I am gonna replace the head unit with just haven't had time yet. Also have the maestro rr to retain all the steering wheel controls.

Changing the door speakers alone is a waste, sometimes it can sound worse. Add a nice amp behind the head unit or one under the seat for some decent sound. I added an amp behind the dash, and ran the stock oem speakers and when I did some new Rockford speakers later and the improvement was noticeable. Once you throw some power to the stock speakers they are not really that bad sounding. Now changing the dash speakers to some 2 way and not a kicker tweeter plug and play is the way to go. There are some nice 2 ways out there that are a lot better. My unit came alive with Rockford's amp, speakers and a sub/amp combo,
