Not regular trees, but I think I'm up to about seven evergreen bush stumps. I just did four more last weekend.
Granted the ground was pretty wet, and I dig around them and cut every root I can see before I start pulling.

No issues with using the trailer hitch, a shackle, and a very heavy-duty tow strap.

I don't know if I'd try it on a regular tree stump though...

I pulled some shrubs, yes bushes, out once. Used a tow strap and full size Dodge 4wd in reverse. Spun out in 2wd and the transmission stalled in 4-Hi o_Oand had to put it in 4-Lo and they popped right out. Otherwise, no drama.

A few years later, with Taco, I pulled three 4-6" trees from the back yard. I dug them mostly up and soaked the ground. Same deal; tow straps on the winch bumper and 4-Lo and they popped out and I drug them into the street. Again, no drama.

You have to be smarter than the stump!

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Drill it, put Epsom salt or saltpeter, dry it out a bit then pull it or have a marshmallow roast. Probably not worth destroying your drivetrain and/or transmission.

Ok, what are those of us to do that don't have $90k for a skid steer, plus the $20k for a trailer, as well as a place to store it?

I use the trailer hitch and the longest sawzall blade I've got on hand.

I want to try the rollover stick method on the next stump I need to pull. Similar method used in off-road recoveries with a spare tire as well.

I had great luck with this. Drill the heck out of the stump and fill the holes with this and wait. I have used it on ash, oak, and pine stumps with good results. I’m not sure what’s in it but it works

I dug around the stump as much as I could. I cut the roots surrounding the stump and pulled it.

    Be safe and record.

I just finished 6 trees around my home. They ranged from 12-20 inches in diameter at the butt. I rented a mini cat hoe , job was done in one afternoon. Cost me $400 ,money well spent. I would never use my truck to pull out stumps.

Yeah, i guess if you dug the roots, and chopped them while soaking the ground that would be a lot easier. I once watched a full size pickup 4wd try to pullout some topped 6'' hemlocks with a large chain. They didn't do any of the prep work above. Truck just sat with the front, and back tires spinning.

Heck yeah, lower back and truck frame saver, good choice! I even have to rent a few machines every now and then, I have commercial account with Holt Cat, I carry the rental machines on my farm policy and the mini cats run $235 day.

I did take out a few 15inch plus diameter mesquites this week with my Orange, I just have break off a few of the tap roots first before lifting the tree.
