I’ve had this issue 2 or 3 times now I wash the truck and then move it back into the garage and park it. I use the parking brake every time I park. When I go to drive it again sometime the next day sometimes the same day a couple hours later my rear tires are locked up and the truck won’t move. Anyone else have this issue or just my truck the rear shoes may be the issue if it’s just my truck. Everything is original only 4K on the truck.

Rear brake drums locked up from water. Pretty common. If you're in a colder area grab a mallet and hit it a few times if it doesn't unlock.

If you take her for a spin after washing it'll work the water out pretty quickly before parking.

I found what works for me is to mess with the parking brake cables. Give the cables a couple tugs and activate the handle a couple times. That usually releases it for me. I have since started driving my truck a couple miles after washing it in the hope that it gets the water out.

I’ve had the same issue. After I found out it most likely happens when rears are wet I adjusted my use of the pbrake accordingly. Never happened again.

Just use the search function, this and the "My Rubber Molding Flew Off in the Car Wash" topics have been covered numerous times.

There are actually numerous articles and blogs about the pros of using a parking brake on automatics routinely. Is it a necessity like a manual, no, but is it a good habit to get in to, yes. Some manufacturers don't even make it optional anymore. All Teslas automatically engage the parking brake when you put the vehicle in to park, there is no separate electronic or manual parking brake.

    Yes, I know.

It's a habit, and a good one, if you're driving a M/T though. Muscle memory.

He need not worry about it, again, if he just drives the truck after washing it.

It's Friday, so I know where this is headed..

I always drive the truck after hand washing it so that I can get all the water and soap out of the wheels and rust doesn’t form on the rotor braking surface.

I use my parking brake all the time just out of habit as well so that when offroading it's second nature. Don't want your parking pawl to fail and then you watch your truck roll down the side of a mountain.

Tesla doesn't have a traditional parking pawl like an auto so it needs the brakes to hold it.

Never used the E brake on my tundra....when i went to use it, the cable was rusted sold...even the actuator levers on the brake drums that pivot inside were rusted tight. Ask the dealer if the E brake in those new toyota pickups still had issues....of course they said would you expect anything less. After looking how the e brake system is designed its only a matter of time before they do.:frusty:

Someone in one of the other threads about this issue had some trick for unsticking it, wherein they pressed the brakes, pulled the lever, released the brakes, and then lowered the parking brake, or maybe a different order, and that freed it multiple times. Strange issue

As far as rusty ebrake cables, thats more likely to occur on vehicles that almost never see the parking brake engaged. Use it or lose it

My wife will pull the damn parking brake like she is trying to stop a freight train. Are you maybe giving it the old steroid jerk?

I've had it stick a few times when it was really cold. I had to jiggle the e-brake cable where it goes into the brake drum. The only time that it got stuck when it was wet, I just went into reverse, then drive a few times and it broke free.
