I'm in the process of becoming a first responder at my local VFD( I am a nurse by trade, currently working a desk job, but with experience in the ER, ICU, and Progressive Care IMC.) The VFD just seems like a nice fit.

Anyways, most of the guys locally that are Leo, or VFD etc have dash lights or lights mounted behind the rear view or in the back glass.

What I'm wanting is strobes that I can mount into the existing head and taillights.

They will have to be white strobes.

    Anyone with experience in this?

    Look up ECCO "hide-a-led".
They are made to drill into existing lights and add a stobe led in any color. VERY bright and compact. Quality stuff, they specialize in safety Lighting.

Check your state laws on this and ask the VFD if those types of lights are acceptable. Some states they are not allowed and some VFDs won't allow them.

I just have a small dash mounted LED strobe. We rarely do direct to the scene, so we just run lights to the station. My little light does well and is very bright. Mine looks like or is the code 3 XT6 in all red.

I'm looking to possibly change out my windshield strobe and put in some of the hide-a-way LED's, but I'm curious...does anyone know of an LED light bar that is dual purpose? For example, can act as a light bar with white LED, but can also act as a blue strobe?

I'm not trying to start any thing. But just because you are EMT, LEO, first responder, etc..does not make your POV an emergency vehicle. Check you state laws.

True story. Indiana as an example has pretty strict laws on this.

-Actively responding volunteer firefighters only, en-route to station or scene, who have received permission from their department (probationaries are typically not allowed). We have a card that is issued and signed by the Chief, should be with us always.
-Must obey all traffic laws and signals as-is.
-Blue light does not grant right of way in Indiana, only asks permission for right of way.
-Blue, white, and/or alternating headlamps only.
-All emergency lights must be on one circuit.

Our department is mixed on people who use them and people who don't. Some who live close to the station or have a straight run don't use it, because the gain is minimal. I usually get a bit of traffic en-route and I live a few miles away, so mine typically helps. From my experience, people have been very good about getting out of the way while I'm en-route.

Nice! Did you order from a regular retailer or a Fire/Rescue reseller? Are yours single color or color changeable?

    Texas is where I'm located.

Thank you guys for your concern regarding legality.
I have researched this and spoke with local legalities. Blue and amber are used on construction vehicles here. Clear and amber for recovery vehicles and red, white and blue are available for le, ems, first responders and fire.

I'm still on the fence on whether or not I want to add them

I didn't say anything about him not being able to run them. Just don't want him getting a ticket for something. No one wants a ticket. I'm all for him putting lights in.
