Aftermarket car alarm. Follow the wiring and it will lead you to the alarm "brain" (behind driver's side kick panel) and most likely the shock sensor (mounted to the steering column).

I had a similar button on my F-250, I got the same result... nothing... I think it was either the aftermarket air horns that no longer had an air pump attached or some kind of alarm that wasn't in the truck anymore.

Might be part of a GPS disabler/fleet tracking system. If your vehicle is/was on the auction circuit for a while, or if it was ever sold by a used lot that sells to "high risk" customers, or belonged to a commercial/private fleet - sometimes the leinholders or business owners have a system installed where they can track and recover the vehicle easier. The button/switch is usually part of the bypass system to allow the vehicle to be restarted.

Even if the system is removed, installers might leave the switch there to make it look less like "hey why are there screw holes all in my vehicle's dash?"

Do it at speed to see if it ejects the passenger seat.

It's a "Do Not Push" button that is on all Tacoma trucks.

If enough Tacoma owners push it at the exact same time, it may result in the end of the world

alarm. press and hold for 3 second with your key in the "on" position and the light might turn on which means the alarm is now disabled. if that doesn't happen, then the alarm might be disconnected or removed, but they left the button.
I have the same alarm on my truck (slightly different switch).

Reminds me of Steven Wright. "I have a light switch in my house that doesn't go to anything. Every time I walk by it I flip it. Then I got this letter from this lady in Germany that said 'cut it out' ".
