Proof that thieves will steal literally anything.

To answer you question its normally just a steel wheel that fits your lug pattern; 6 or 5.

Being a TRD sport it should be a steel 17" wheel.

This must mean the tailgate lock is proving to be effective... OR No one is buying stolen tailgates.

So the thieves have resorted to stealing spare tires. Talk about low hanging fruit.

I just gave away my stock spare to a buddy whose brother had his spare stolen... in CA.

Idk if you can post a thread there yet until you've hit 50 posts, but try the for sale thread and post a WTB (want to buy) for a stock 17" steel spare. Someone who just upgraded wheels may be interested in selling/giving it to you

Steal wheel. You only get a matching spare if you buy a 4runner , Sequoia , Landcruiser or maybe a Highlander. My lx570 has a matching spare also.

A 17" steel wheel is pretty heavy. Even if the truck came stock with a steelie, you may want to upgrade to an alloy wheel and cut ~10 lb of weight from the back. Just saying.

P.S. The Toyota spare tire lock has been marketed for at least seven years. Old problem. :)

So does anyone have experience with the Toyota spare tire lock? I'm thinking about getting one now.

    Is it any good?

Ordered one with my TRD Pro. Seems to be fine to me. I dropped the spare and checked the pressure on the tire and made sure the lock worked when I got it home.

    909 is a "special place"

Unfair to characterize Ca negatively due to the 909 issues

Yeah, didn't mean to offend, but much of CA has a higher crime rate that where I live. I grew up in Goleta/SB area when I was in grade school. Miss the CA weather and outdoor activities. Just different.

    No offense taken

I rather not live in CA myself, if I could help it ...

that sucks dude but good on you for noticing it that quickly haha if mine ever got stolen I probably wouldn't notice for months, mainly because at this point its winter up here and I'm not crawling under the truck doing any mods... yet.
