I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if there are differences between the stock skid plates of the various trim levels. I understand the the pro is different but I haven't had a lot of luck with my search skills to determine if there is a difference between SR, SR5, TRD Sport, and TRD OR.

Pro has an aluminum skid plate. It fits all trims but is different.

The other models do not get skids plates. They get a splash guard

Thanks for the info. I have an SR5 and saw someone selling OR OEM skid plates for $25, so I was just wondering if they were different.

Good to know, thanks. We don't do any rock crawling or anything like that. I'm primarily just looking for added protection for rocks/roots that sometimes appear in the center of the more rutted out forest service roads.

Well, I can personally attest the OR "skid plates" don't do much. I crunched mine up pretty good and wasn't even doing anything crazy. Better than nothing, maybe. But I'll be going with proper skids, probably from RCI.

Wonder if you could double up. Put the OR skids on top of yours.

If you can pick one up for cheap, I'd do it. They are no substitute for actual skids, but my OR model skid took a few good hits and everything was fine. Having more metal between the important stuff and rocks is never a bad thing.

The ORs come from the factory doubled up. The OR over the splash guard type one. Makes it a real pain in the ass if you ever have to take them off and put them back on the way they mount up since they share the same bolts.

Well I missed out on the $25 OR skids, but if I come across some for cheap again I might pick them up. Otherwise to get actual skids will probably be a bit down the road. My wife has cut me off from spending any more on the truck for a while.

~250 gets you a pretty stout steel skid from SOS or RCI. One of the members around here has a discount code in his sig for SOS if I remember right, and RCI currently has a groupbuy in the making.

Repair costs would be much higher than $250. You'd be saving yourself money. **rehearse this a few times before teeing it up with the wife.

My wife's response would be something along the lines of "well we can not get that, and also not take the truck anywhere it could get damaged and save money on damage, skid plate, and gas".

Thanks for the info though. That seems a lot cheaper than I thought, maybe it was because I kept seeing the skids that go all the way back to the rear differential.

One good wallop to the IFS, and yeah, you'd be buying a whole skid set for a bargain! Granted, on MOST of the fire roads I've seen, the OR skid is plenty. There are some in CO and Western UT that pack a decent bite though.

I'm a finance guy, and live in Sandy. If you need a "financial advisor" to argue the merits of a one time $250 cost to protect your investment, let me know.

Thanks. She has agreed to getting skids, just not yet. For the most part if the roads start looking too dicey we turn around. At the moment the truck is so new to us that it doesn't take too much for us to think it looks too dicey.

I understand that. Just like when I got my 15, I had a no eating in it rule. That lasted about 6 weeks. If you ever want to go explore UT, and keep it on the mellow stuff, hit me up. Always looking for people to poke around with.

Thanks, will do. As for the no eating we still don't allow eating in ours. It was awesome to watch my wife reach into the back seat and snag a bag of chips out of her mother's hands. The look on my mother-in-law's face will stay with me for a while.

One thing I know for sure is that Sports don't come with the plastic fuel tank skid that the OR comes with ... also, PM me if you want to buy my dinged up front skid and good condition transmission skid for cheap + shipping ...
