I have the stock 245/75-R16 tires on my 18’ DCLB SR5 at 31k miles now and it’s wearing uneven as the outer edges are worn (looking at outside of tire)
    • (_)⬅️ Passenger front and rear

•➡️(_) Driver front and rear is where the balding spot is
But the inside of the tire has plenty of tread but I’m deciding to just get new tires to avoid any potential problems that may rise in the future from the accumulating miles and wear. I want to upgrade to a bigger tire size from the stock 245 to 265 tire and was wondering if that will affect the speedometer and will it need to be calibrated to measure the right speed. Thanks

You should seriously check into getting an alignment or check for worn bushings, a tire shouldn’t wear unevenly for no apparent reason. Especially if there’s a lot of potholes in your area or you take your truck off paved roads. Chances are your alignment isn’t perfect.

as for the 265 tires you won’t notice much of a difference. it’ll only be off 1mph or so

I had the truck since new at 37 miles and it’s the Firestone destination LE2 tires and at around 19.5k miles (mid February 2020)that was when I had the right rear tire plugged from a nail at discount tire. Had always had the maintenance and tire rotations done at the dealership been normal daily driving no problems what so ever ever since and the pressure has always been between 31-35 psi. It seems to drive straight and steady on the highway but there were some times where I took a corner turn and the freeway exit ramp too fast and that is probably what is contributing to the wear.

you should still check into getting an alignment it’s about that time anyway. I get an alignment every 6 months... Firestone lifetime alignment. But I do off-road a lot. Either way I would get an alignment don’t want your new tires wearing prematurely

I did the same change on my 18 SR5 and mathematically it's about 2.5% difference in size which is about 2 mph at 75 mph (going 77 when gauge reads 75) but using GPS speed gathering I find that it is barely ever even off by more than 1 mph and any speed.

I'd definitely go for it, I've been enjoying this tire size. You may have to remove your front mud flaps or get aftermarket lower profile ones like I did.

Did the speedometer speed match the cruise control set speed when you drove on the highway? Sometimes it will off by 1 mph when you set it at a certain speed. Usually I have it set at 68mph in the top right corner and the speedometer will be at 66 or 67 even though if a car is 3 car lengths in front of me (I have set the cruise distance in the middle setting) but it will go to the set speed after 30 seconds but it just won’t be instant I found

I haven't noticed it being far off the speedo when using cruise before or after going with bigger tires. I'm actually getting bigger ones again next time, the info being slightly off really doesnt even catch my attention, but it may bother some people. I'd say the discrepancy is very small.

If you go 265/70 it'll be the same.

I know that the 265 tire is taller than the 245 stock oem tire but will that cause a different reading on the speedometer when driving?

I went from the stock 245/75 16's to some like new 265/70 16's a/t tires i had from my 01 tundra. Really didn't see much change except a slight drop in fuel economy, but the truck is even more awesome in snow now.

A 265/70/16 tire is wider than a 245/75/16. They are nearly identical in diameter and will have no impact on your speedo reading.

Those tires came on my truck new. They struck me as best used for ornamental paper weights. Possibly wind chimes.
Went with a better tire in 265/75/16, much better.

You're over thinking this OP. Your cluster info will be fine, I'm pretty sure you won't notice anything at all.
