    Hey guys,

After replacing the steering rack and inner and outer tie rods, getting new wheels/tires and having them rebalanced by several different shops, wheel bearings, brakes, ball joints, struts, UCA and LCA bushings, and steering intermediate shaft, I’m at the point where I’m considering the CV axles to be the culprit of my intermittent steering wheel shake at high speeds. I’ve currently got Cardone CV axles installed and they’re about 6000 miles old, although the steering wheel has always shook. Could these cheap aftermarket axles be the reason why my steering wheel is shaking? Even in 2wd?
    Thanks

These trucks are known to have the steering wheel shake after a lift usually caused by the needle bearing in the front driver side axle housing. Look into the ECGS replacement bushing, plenty of threads on the issue seems to be the only fix.

Maybe... but I doubt it, shaking is the same while braking and feels nice and smooth, they were replaced about 6000 miles ago with the CV axles when the frame was done

I’d lean towards a bad balance
I know every time I get my tires balanced I have to go back and get them rebalanced

You could be right. I wish there was a shop in my city with the Haweka adapter. All 4 of the dealers in my area think I’m crazy when I bring it up. They don’t have road force balancers either, only my local Canadian Tire. I had them do it twice to my wheels and didn’t change anything

Maybe you have a bad tire
Change them front to back to see if it changes.
Any othe Tacoma people in your area that you could switch out wheels and tires for a test run to see if the vibe goes away.

I had something like this until they were road force balanced, then I was fine.

I took your advice. My brother has a Tacoma that doesn’t have a shaking steering wheel, so I took the wheels off of his truck and put them on mine a couple hours ago. The shake was almost gone, but still minimally there. Out of curiosity I put my wheels on his truck, and they were fine (no shake). Hmmmm

What kind of tires do you have? My BFG K02s give me a slight intermittent vibration, usually around 45-50. They will balance out fine though. Vibration is always a little different after each rotate.

Edit: just saw you already swapped wheels/tires and it's still there.

Try removing your rear prop shaft. Put it in 4hi and see if the vibe goes away. This will eliminate u-joints as a culprit
