Bought an 05’ DLCB 4wd. When I bought, it would start shaking at 60mph. Needed new tires bought them and still shakes. When I went and got my alignment done, they said I had a sloppy hub and it needed to be replaced. Of course I just replaced it and still did not fix it. So it only does it at 60-65 once I reach over those it stops. I am stunned and for the life of me can’t figure it out. Check other hub and it was good to go. Any suggestions? Rebalance tires?? Or??

New tires, and hub assembly so??

    Steering whee ??

I would have a look at your ball joints (and everything else in your front suspension and steering).

Yes ball joints were new when bought from the dealer.

I agree with Hobbs, I think if it is shaking the steering wheel, it more than likely, is something in the front end.
Start with the least expensive first, imo. If they can re-balance them for nothing, go for it.

Rotate your tires front-to-rear to see if the vibration changes. This eliminates tire/wheel issues (which should have been noticed at the alignment).

Do you ONLY feel it in the steering wheel?

Are the wheels stock? if not, are they hub centric? They need to be. if your steering wheel is shaking back and forth.. Rebalance the tires, Get them road forced balanced, with the proper adapter plate. Mine would never balance unless they use the adapter. I fought it and fought it. Finally got a good balance, after several different shops.

    Starting with the basics:

Is the steering wheel shimmying side to side or do you feel and up and down oscillation of the front tires?
Have you checked the tie rod ends and steering rack for play? Known source of shimmy
Do you have oversized or off road type tires, aftermarket wheels and /or wheel spacers?
What brand of tires and are there tons of balance weights installed?
Are you sure the wheels are not bent?
Have you swapped the tires front to back and seen any difference?

When I was a kid my father had a '66 Chevy Impala. That thing would shimmy like crazy around 35-40 mph, nothing below that and it would stop above that speed. It was a worn out center link, an old school steering part but similar concept.

I had them rebalanced, left tire was 1/4” ounce off and the right was 1 ounce off. But, still did not fix it.

Both of them were done. Just redid the balance and still didn’t help.

I had mine "balanced" many many times. at several different shops. and they were always off, even just a couple days later they would be off. It wasn't til I made sure they were road forced with the proper adapter for Toyota wheels that it fixed it. Went to a shop, they were "supposed" to do all that, then when they were done, the guy told me that he told the guy to do it, but then someone else ended up doing the balance, and didn't do it.. So, he said we can redo them now, or you can try it. I tried it, still shook. Went right back. road forced and used the adapter, and all has been well since.. Starting to get just a slight shake again after several months. also If they are aftermarket, they need to be hubcentric.
