A couple days ago I bought some 265/70/17 BF Goodrich AT KO. I noticed right away that I had some steering vibration at highway speeds. On perfectly smooth roads, it's hardly noticeable but introduce an uneven concrete surface and its pretty nasty. When I got it home, i noticed they had me at 50PSI. I dropped that to 34PSI and had the tires re-balanced by the same off road shop. Driving to work this morning, same thing.

I've had these tires on my previous vehicles and never noticed this. The Tacoma was so smooth before this upgrade, its allot more noticeable.

Any thoughts or ideas? Is it possible that it's still a balancing issue or are these tires just to harsh for the stock suspension? Despite their mediocre look, i am starting to miss the Dueller HT's that came from the factory.

    Thanks in Advance!

I would have it rebalanced if possible. I had this same issue when I originally got my 265/70/17 BF Goodrich AT KO. I wonder if its just those tires. I now have larger Hankook MT's and no vibration...They may have to take the tire off, rotate it and reinstall/balance or if possible do a Road Force balance...Good luck

^^^^ sounds like a balancing issue to me as well. The bfg all terrains shouldn't give you and issues there are a great proven tire.

    100% sure it's balancing problem

Haweka adapter + road force balance should take care of your problem

There should be or have been a little dot on the side wall, when mounting it should be offset to the valve stem. I would take them to a good tire service center and have them re balanced.

I checked for this and they did observe the dot. I do notice that they only put weights on the outer edge of the wheel, not the inner edge. When I took it back for rebalancing, they mentioned their machine can zero it out and get a better balance with weights on only one side.

Starting to look like i need to take it back to have them try again, if they fail, I'll take it to another shop and spend the $

I have the same issue with my wheels. Perfectly smooth with the awful OEM Bridgestone, but I get a little bit of a vibration with my new Hankook ATMs. I know the tires are balanced dead on, because I did it (twice).

Something about the steering is just sloppy on these trucks.

Had same problem when I put these on my PreRunner

Loved the tire, as I have run them on many other trucks I've had with zero issues. I could not get them to balance or steering vibes to go away on that Tacoma.

BTW Op, really like those TRD accessory wheels you have on the truck, any pics of the entire truck with the wheels on it?

Took it back for a third balancing. This time they did a dual-plane balance, essentially using weights on the both sides of the wheel. Vibrations were gone for the drive back to the office, about 5 miles. I think it's licked.

    Aloha,

also check to see if the tire is out of round. I had a couple new ones that were. And, when you get the wheel off the ground spin it by hand and run your hand over the tread an side walls and checks for bumps .

I have vibration issues since changing my wheels. First the local Toyota dealer tech forgot to balance them at all, then I found they swapped the tires between sides, so after putting up with that for a few thousand miles I had new tires put on. America's Tire installed the new tires and I still had vibrations. Two balances later I had a long chat with the manager and he put his best tech on my truck. They used the Haweka adapter and Road Force balance this time, and no more vibrations.

    balancing issues....

look up hubcentric versus logcentic balancing.
if you have aftermarket wheels you need to get them balance using an adapter and a knowledgable tech.not some moron...:p
