I just had an alignment done and the pre collision stuff is going full error now.
It looks like the fix is likely to be zeroing out the steering angle sensor.

Is there a do it yourself method? should an alignment shop do this as part of the alignment?

Looks like 2nd gen can do the paper clip trick

Have corrected 2 Tacomas that needed this. Zero point calibration. Fixed with my code reader (with ABS functions).

So I need to correct my statement. There are sections in the FSM which state: "If front wheel alignment or steering wheel position is adjusted without disconnecting the negative battery terminal, or if yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point is not acquired after the adjustments have been completed, the skid control ECU (brake
actuator assembly) detects the difference between the previous zero point and newly acquired zero point and outputs this DTC to indicate a poor adjustment."

BUT the FSM procedure for wheel alignment doesn't say anything about disconnecting the battery; just to do a zero point cal once you're done. Apologies for missing this nuance.

I took off an air dam once
i know it took firestone 2 trips and a few different techs to figure this out on mine, i have lifetime alignments with them lol so i may have to tell them to disconnect the battery next time

    @Superdave1.0
I suppose it's important to have the steering wheel centered during the erase procedure?

Correct, and on flat ground. There is a free method too. You take a paper clip and insert it into 2 holes on your OBD port. I tried that method and it didn't work.

Most mechanic or alignment shops will have a decent code reader/scanner. The high end ones can reset this light. Don't need to go to dealer.

    Thanks again Dave.
It seems like a good alignment shop woule know about zero point recalculation. I looked up Techstream, i was expecting it to be some crazy expensive diagnostic tool, but its just a simple program and adapter cable

Ive got the same scanner that you used, but I'm not getting any error codes.
How did you get to abs reset?
I'll have to down load the manual I think. Update...
    It worked!!!
    Thanks Dave

Awesome. For me it is the ABS button first for this issue. That tool will serve you well for years to come! I've had mine like 4 years.

    Got the 5210
Supposed to be the same as the 3040.

The alignment shop wanted me to just leave the truck, and a trip to the dealership is an all day trip.
This scanner can live in the glove box now.

Around 2019/2020 the paper clip jumper method for zero point calibration was no longer enabled. What codes are you actually getting?

Technically, the steering sensor zeroes itself every time the truck is started and driven. The issue after an alignment lies with the "new" steering angle zero value varying vastly from the previous values or not jiving with the yaw/accel sensor signals. You need to do a zero point calibration on the yaw rate and acceleration sensor to correct. When you do this procedure you first clear zero point calibration data (this will include the steering angle sensor) and then you perform the zero point calibration of the yaw and accel sensors.

Techstream is how I know to do it with trucks that don't have the jumper method available. Attached is a snippet of the techstream procedure. For other devices you will be looking for something like this.

I'm not exactly sure what codes popped up, but they were both ABS related and cleared when I hit the erase button.
Truck was sitting flat when I erased, I think the zero point is good.

Super easy fix! Thank you so much superdave1.0.

Hopefully others find this useful too.
Here is my situation and fix:
    2020 3.5L SR 4x4 double cab automatic.

Installed Bilstien 6112 1.5” lift (Icon RXT leaf pack set at 2nd position, paired with Bilstien 5160).
I did not disconnect battery and drove to alignment shop. The stability control / traction control pre collision sensor malfunction displayed on screen.

Bought the Innova 5210 after reading this thread. Plugged it in, pressed system status, navigated to Abs, pressed enter, error codes displayed. I choose the erase all codes. Done; just that easy.

IMO, $100 for the tool isn’t bad for what it does.

Oh, dealer wanted $420 ($100 to scan/diagnose, 320 to “reset” sensors).

Good luck everyone. Thanks again, Dave.

    Lots--

I can vouch this works. I literally bought it on Amazon overnight and followed these exact instructions and were good.

    My issue was the following:

2020 TRD Off Road 6 speed manual

I had bent a steering knuckle aka spindle about an inch. My passenger side. So I opted to buy a new one and also snagged HD gussets from Fabzone. Welded them up after taking apart both sides and pulling sensors out bearing etc.

After putting everything back together and getting aligned I had the same issue with the abs/ steering position sensor.

here are some pics of the unit while using it this am

note the collision sensor was still on so I turned truck off and back on. It’s gone. Thanks guys!!! Hope this helps more people in this situation. No dealer needed here.

Awesome post. I should have posted photos too. Oh well, I’ll keep it in mind for next time.
Also, I’ve had no issues since deleting codes. Everything working smoothly.
