Steelies with Skinnys and Hubcaps

What do you all think?

 

Hmm no comments after this long, but I like it looks clean

 

Just my opinion but I'd like it better without the cap.

 

I like the idea but the chrome is not my thing. Now if the hub caps were painted the color of the truck...

 

Remove the hub caps. That’ll make it better

 

Paint them and put em back on.

Reminds me of the first one I saw with Steelies.

 

I really like it but would play with color on the chrome hub caps. Maybe try the Duplicolor shadow chrome black-out wheel paint, might tie in the wheels with the smokey chrome on the grill. If I liked the look, I would also do the chrome trim around the grill. Would you mind sharing details on purchasing wheels and hub caps?

I’m into it. Reminds me of the Icon 4x4 stuff, which are the most beautiful things on the planet.

Yep, definitely needs to black out that chrome grill trim for sure. That was the first thing to go on mine

 

Ditto. Looks old school FJ to me. I dig it.

 

I like it with the hub caps simply cause I’ve never seen another Tacoma with it.

I kinda like the hub cap idea, but not sold on the FJ hub caps on a 3rd gen Taco.

Perhaps it would work (for me) if the wheels were painted a different color...

 

I was thinking that a different wheel color would help it pop a bit but struggle with what color would work with the dark color of the truck. I was thinking gray or egg shell/cream white might give it a nice contrast.

Full disclosure. I have not modified the wheels yet to accept the hubcaps as I wanted to try different fastening ideas and possible wheel colors but I needed the tires on for a upcoming trip.

Here is my test wheel.

• These are Road Ready wheels that accomodate the stock size and offset. I liked these as they don't have the oval hole that comes on the stock steelies.
• Hub caps came from Cruiser Corps Cap w/out Hole OEM - FJ40, FJ45, FJ55, FJ60, FJ62, BJ 1958-1990.
• I modified the wheel using threadserts and snap fasteners from JJ Kelley. A bit of trial and error but it seems to work.

 

I was thinking of the machine grey in your second picture, but I'm not sure how well it would go with the dark grey truck.
