    Hey buds!

Wondering if anyone has done their bumper in Steel-it VS powdercoating?

Waiting on my BAMF bumper to arrive, opted to get it in raw stainless vs the extra charge for powder. Thinking a few cans of Steel-It might do the trick. Anyone have any experience with the product?

I’ve heard good things about it so I purchased one can ($34) to coat some hardware. It was installed under the truck yesterday so time will tell. The prep instructions are pretty intense, including sanding or blasting. Like any coating, you’ll make your money prepping the surface the right way the first time.

In the future I’d like to get a new rear bumper and will probably go for Steel It too.

Heck yeah! I appreciate the replies- Was starting to kick myself for not going ahead and getting the powder done. But sounds like this will work fine if I take my time and do it right!

I'm confused, if the bumper is stainless steel why would it need paint/powder coat to fight corrosion?

His bumper should be made of Mild steel.
I believe he meant to say the finish is bare steel VS Powdercoat.

I have not used steel-it before. My understanding is that you can weld on the coating. This is good for weld projects that will have a chance to rust while its being fabricated.

We used it on a tube chassis Ultra4 race car a few years ago. The race shop didn't have a proper spray setup so the new off the shelf Wagner Power Painter did the job. Prep is still the most important thing and will yield good results. While you can weld through it's better to plan on scuffing it and then re-applying when done. It's held up well for a couple of seasons and is far easier to maintain versus WD-40 and craploads of Scotch Brite.

I just did my steering with it in black and it turned out great.
