First off let me say I am in no way affiliated with State48Overland.com @state48overland. I am just a satisfied customer and hope to help others have a similar experience. These days folks don’t waste a second to comment negatively about a company when things aren’t perfect. It’s far less often a positive review is shared. I thought I’d offer my $0.02

I recently decided to place an order through S48O using their Armor Purchase Plan (APP). They’ve teamed up with the OG of Tacoma armor @JDEMELLO to get things done right. The program allows the customer to keep the bulk of their money in their pocket during the armor fabrication process. All that is required up front is a deposit.

Although my order was minimal, I’ve been treated as if I ordered enough armor to outfit 10 trucks. Erick and Jay have been great to deal with and have provided me with updates on the status of the order. To say they go above and beyond is an understatement.

They offer several turn key packages to simplify things for customers like the recently added Mother Of All Builds (MOAB) options. It’s basically a one stop shop package to fully get the meat of a build knocked out. Definitely a good route if you are starting from scratch and know exactly where you want your build to go. Or if you’re just ready to finally get it done right.

Even if you’re not looking for armor, check them out. They carry tons of top brands and all things Toyota offroad related from suspension to lighting, recovery, first aid, etc. Pricing is very competitive, but most importantly, call them. What you see may not be the best you can get. Tell them Jonathan recommended you

There are already several standout vendors on TW, I imagine S48O will share that claim in the future. Maybe this thread could be their “Temporary Vendor” section.

These guys are men of their word and the passion they bring to the table is amazing! @state48overland doesnt want to sell you shit, they want YOU to outfit your taco the way you should! The right way, not trying to up sell you the biggest, largest, coolest...but the BEST! Buy once, cry once!

I to did their APP program! Uh...thats a no brainer for me and who else is doing this? NO ONE! NOTTA, ZERO! I am a single dad spending thousands at one time is a no go. Their program made it to where I got my armor now! Not years from now.....ha!

The APP thing is becoming common now especially since the recent issues with pelfreybilt and all pro.

 

To me they are setting bar super high! How awesome for us as customers to have anything like this or them available. Awesome!

It certainly takes a lot of the risk for the customer when making a large purchase.

If that’s accurate this program sounds like a terrible idea. PayPal credit at 0% for six months is an easy way to limit the immediate cost and protect from a vendor potentially pelfreying you.

 

Well I think there may be confusion with our APP and inaccurate information here. So read it below.
In short- we ask for a $250 refundable deposit. Credited toward overall purchase. Once fabrication done and ready to be shipped, we ask for the remainder of the balance to be paid. I do every armor order through PayPal for further consumer protection. So its inaccurate you the customer getting charged over 30%-not sure where that was derived.


State 48 Overland introduces it's APP . Armor Purchase Plan. Patience is the utmost virtue as a customer in this industry.

At S48O, we know how frustrating it can be having your money tied up with no product to show for it and unfortunately in some cases, the product never shows up. We want to help restore consumer confidence during a time when our communities need it the most.

We have partnered up with our friend and long standing industry veteran, Jason Demello at Demello Off-Road. With over 15 years of industry presence, Demello Off-Road was the obvious choice for establishing a dealer to manufacturer advance pay system. What does this all mean to you? When you order your armor through State 48 Overland, we will carry the upfront cost to get your order started, not you the customer. We have established a limited line of pre-paid cash, not credit with Demello.

We will request a $250 deposit. This is then credited toward your invoice balance once the product has been completed and is staged for shipment. Only at this final stage of completion will we then ask you to complete the purchase of your product and pay the difference owed. Your deposit is fully refundable should you change your mind? Correct, no restocking fees, no explanation needed, you get your deposit money back if you change your mind. In essence, State 48 Overland has already paid for the armor order, now owns the inventory, and will get it to the next customer up should your order be cancelled. (Sorry its to the back of line if you happen to change your mind again)

State 48 Overland has limited line of pre-paid cash deposit. That said, we will do our very best to accommodate as many orders as possible under this program. So, it is highly encouraged that you call State 48 Overland (833-STATE48) first, prior to placing an order for armor products under our APP program. Please keep in mind that S48O will remain your point person for questions, lead times, and status of your order. We want to keep Demello Off-Road busy on the production line, not the phone.

We also want to mention, that our intent is not to steer you away from ordering products and paying up front for them when going through reputable vendors/manufacturers directly. Our business model and platform has been set up to provide the customer with armor purchasing options. We separate ourselves from other traditional retail dealers by not asking for full payment up front from the customer.

The intent of APP is to alleviate apprehension for customers that are shopping for armor then faced with the decision to pay in full and having to wait for the product during the fabrication time. This program is set up to give the customer confidence when buying armor through State 48 Overland. You should only be focused on receiving and enjoying the product you paid for.

I’m not sure I follow. What “loan” are you needing or referring to?

The total price I’ll be paying for my sliders is the same price it would have been if I’d purchased directly through Demello. All I’ve put down up front is a minimal deposit.

I’m in no way trying to be argumentative. Simply trying understand what you’re referring to.

 

This is not a loan program. Its a program where we pay the manufacturer up front the entire cost of the armor order so the customer doesn't have to. Only party that has zero protection from another "Pelfrey Debacle" will be us, not the customer, under the APP.

Without a business address, many customers MIGHT think is a garage operation as a hobby with sub operations to many other manufacturers. Just a heads-up since AZ is known for this and wrongly judged.

 

State 48 Overland operates as an online store based in AZ. We have the same distribution network and direct manufacturer to dealer agreements in place that all the local brick and mortar shops use for inventory or sell on their websites. We have reputable, local shops we have partnered up with for installation, powder coating, mechanical services, body work, and paint. We perform local product deliveries to save on shipping costs for our customers. We have no incentive to over charge or push unnecessary products to our customers as our overhead is nominal compared to traditional b&m's and do give our customers the time of day, updates, and service they deserve. Some background-this is not a hobby for me. Its 100% full time dedication. In a prior life I was a national litigation claims manager for an auto/home insurance carrier. At age 42 I was fortunate enough to take a couple years off work and was pondering early retirement to focus in on the family, coaching and overlanding of course. Well, I got bored as I thought I would, so I spent the better part of a year putting agreements in place with manufacturers and distributors and laying down the foundation for State 48 Overland. Past experiences with some shops & online stores where bad impressions were made set the motivation in place for me to provide and give the customer a superior experience and savings. @state48overland has been my go to supplier of nearly every part I've purchased for my build. From Expedition essentials cubby mounts and TPAM to extended travel kings and leaf springs. It is true that some AZ business have muddied the water with some poor business practices but I can guarantee you that @state48overland is not one of these businesses. If you've spent any amount of time talking with Jay or Erick you will understand immediately that they have YOU in mind not $$$ in mind. It takes a lot to get started in an industry like ours and first and foremost before having a giant building is customer service. If you look really cool but treat people like shit then I'll avoid you. I know a couple places like that that are local. I am the first person to jump on the APP and I have a much better feeling knowing they front the money until the build is finished. Out of their pocket not mine. Now the new Demello 3rd gen bumper will be on my truck with no headache or worry of losing my cash.
Pretty much a no-brainer.
These guys are changing the way we buy parts for our trucks, who else has done a program like the APP? And the MOAB packages are a great idea. Would have been nice to have that when I started building mine.
Like @backcountryj and @Carter'sTaco have said these guys are legitimate people and they have your best interests in mind when you talk with them. Here's a pic of my truck just because this trip to Colorado wouldn't have been possible without their help. If we could get @tcBob to get them vendor status that would be awesome, then they could speak up a little more freely.

It's not though. Suppose the armor order is $1000, they ask for $250 up front, and when it's done, they charge you for the $750 balance. Not sure where you are figuring in a higher price point?

The price you’d pay through the APP with S48O is the same price you’d pay in full from Demello. There is no premium service price. You just pay a deposit now, and balance plus freight when the item ships.

No smoke and mirrors or premium service price bump.
