Hey I am looking to swap my wheels for something lighter. Currently have kmc wheels on my 3rd gen and they r 37lb. Pretty heavy for the taco IMO

I was looking into the ssw dakars. They r really light but I was wondering if anyone has had issues with them off road. Like cracks or bends from impacts.
I don’t really air down less than 18 so I’m not worrying popping the bead.

any opinions or experiences would be appreciated.

Dakars are available in et0 which weigh in at a feathery 23.5 lbs. Higher neg offsets will weight a little more. Despite them being cast and not rotary forged like some other light weight options, they are still light mostly due to their minimalistic design. Ssrs in general seem to have a good reputation for quality even though they are not roll formed. I was close to buying a set but they didn't make the bronze dakar in et0 yet.

Yes I know they are pretty light. I called a shop to see if they stock them, and the guy kind of scared me. Said SSW is trash and he would recommend I get something like that for off road use. Said to go with something forged... But idk how tru that is. Maybe he was just trying to sell me a more expensive wheel.

I currently have aluminum cast KMC, although they weigh a lot, they have been fine for what I do

Dakar's are sick. I wanted to buy them but they were perpetually out of stock at the time. Not mad with my Volks, but I love me some Summit's (or SSW now). SCS are a solid option as well if you can find them in stock.

I hear you on the concern though saying SSW is "trash" is a bit harsh from the dealers point of view. I think buying whatever you decide from a reputable dealer (ideally local) def helps there in case you get a balance or quality issue. I bought a set online and they came balanced but 2 clearly was not and had to have them road force balanced locally to get it straightened out.

If you like the Dakar look, RRW RR7's have a similar look and are rotary forged so the main barrel is stronger and lighter where it counts. I was trying to buy a bronze set but they're out of stock in that color but have other colors and offsets readily available.

DX4 Capers are clear RR7 knockoff but only cast (though still pretty light).

Black Rhino Rapid's are also a multi spoke design but limited in colors.

Iv been on my ssw Apex's for 1 summer and 2 winter seasons now and they have held up well i havnt hammered on them off road but I'm certainly not street driving them.

The only concern I have on my -25's is thread engagement is a little skinny on them not sure if this follows suit on the lower offsets they now offer compared to before.

The falcon t8 is also available in lower offsets now before it was only -38 they have a similiar look the dakar. If black rhino still made the guide that would of been a good option aswell.

The black rhino rapide is more comparable to the apex from ssw.

Depending on your use 99% of wheels will hold up ans be fine. The amount of people street driving 30+lb method wheels is absurd assuming they need a strong wheel.

Lol yes.. I am not the one who said they are trash. I actually really like them and want them. The company I called ( I won't mention the name) in so cal, mentioned that they are "trash" and actually said all Chinese wheels are trash and not reliable for off road use. Starting to have a feeling that they don't know what they are talking about either. lol

I love the RRW but the Dakars are just a bit cheaper which is why I was going for that.

I'm looking for stainless steel color
